Thread: Like most, Cajuns delicately juggle area recruiting issue

  1. Default Like most, Cajuns delicately juggle area recruiting issue

When it comes to recruiting locally, the UL football team's approach is no different than many big-time programs around the country.

    Shane Savoie is an idiot.

"“If you’re 5-(foot)-8 or 5-9,” Indest said, referencing Saban’s standards for incoming cornerbacks, “it didn’t matter any more to him how good your ball skills are or how good your hands are, you can’t defend a 6-5 receiver, so you don’t fit into the box and he’s not going to sign you, period.”

“That has now trickled down to all levels,” Savoie added. “A lot of high school football players just don’t fit into that mold. I guess I can see it to a certain extent in the bigger conferences like the SEC, but not in the Sun Belts of the world.” "

Seriously? Height differential matters in the P5 but not in the lowly Sun Belt? Somehow a 5'9' corner in the Sun Belt isn't at a disadvantage with a 6' 3" or 6' 5" receiver?

Obviously Shane Savoie was taking a shot at UL. Shane needs to go sit in the stands for a little while of his own games and listen to what the parents think about his play calling.

ROTFLMAO!!!! You nailed it. As one of those former parents that was foremost in my mind when I read the article.

Shane Savoie has been a frequent member of the ___-clown list for some time now

It blows me away how many people involved with sports takes the recruiting process so personal. I thank god my parents cared less where I went and more about making sure I got an education. My parents and I felt blessed a school would pay for me to simply run. Hell, that lead to me being the first person in family history to graduate from a university.
My oldest son plays soccer. If you see me at a game I'm as far away from everyone as possible cuz I can't stand these nutjob parents who get all bent up over a game or a coach who takes it to serious.
There thousands of schools offering sports scholarships. Get in where you fit in and make it what u can.

With three who have played I fill your pain. One team in particular I stay a good distance away and at a recent meeting someone commented that I didn't talk much at the games. I took that opportunity to express my feelings on the subject. Hopefully other parents were paying attention. After the game I ask my kids ones question. What did coach say? Then I'm done unless they wish to discuss for the rest of the ride home. If I want to discuss something its usually a couple of hours after the game.

If any of my 3 boys are good enough to attend college on my sort of athletic scholarship, they are banned from only 1 school, and if they are good enough to get an offer from said school then they can get an offer from anywhere.

Remember this, they are always these f'ing couch potatoes that want to leave vicariously through their children because they didn't have enough balls to do it themselves. I just want to kill those idiots, but I just restrain myself.

In the case of Savoie it wasn't about living through the kids but his Pete Carrollesque play calling. It's funny to hear him critisize other coaches, especially successful coaches at the D1A level. At least Indest could admit that his old way of thinking was wrong due to his college coaching experience, limited as it was.
