BOWLING GREEN, Ky — University of Louisiana football coach Rickey Bustle said he was tired of feeling like the Cajuns are escaping games with wins.
UL (4-2, 2-0 SBC) held off thoughts of a WKU (0-6, 0-2) comeback in the fourth quarter, beating the Hilltoppers 30-22 Saturday night.
“I’m glad we won but I just told that football team in there that I’m going to rain on their parade a little bit,” Bustle said. “If we’re going to win this conference championship we better stop talking about getting better and we better play better.”
Despite leading 30-14 with more than 10 minutes to go in the fourth quarter, the Hilltoppers used a one-minute, 55-second drive, capped by a 23-yard touchdown pass from sophomore quarterback Kawaun Jakes to senior wide receiver Jake Gaebler, to pull within eight points after a successful two-point conversion with just more than five minutes to go in the game.
However, UL used nine consecutive rushing plays to run out the clock and seal the victory.
