I'm not. I want us to be a top ranked baseball program year in and year out and thought of around the country that way. We should aspire to that every year. To go from the #1 ranked team in the country to not even in the top 40 is puzzling. Yes, we lost a lot of players, but so did other schools and they remain perennial top programs. You can't get to that level by being in it one year and not the next. I know what matters is where we are at the end of the year, but having that ranking early has our name in the national spotlight week in and week out. We are trying to get a better conference affililation. The more recognition we have preseason, during the season, end of season, the better for us. A good pre-season ranking is good for our program. It will be great for football as well when we finally get to a point of being a pre-season Top 25 program. Pre-season recognition is something we should strive for and not readily dismiss, IMO.

It's a lot easier to justify putting a team who lost what we lost but has a top 10 recruiting class back in the top 20. JMO

We have a ton of questions and it a lot of very young unproven answers. If we started in the top 25 and drop a series or 2 early we would be out... Start in the top 40 and win a couple series early we will be right back in it. We gotta handle our business either way. This team hasn't proved they are even a top 40 much less top25 team... That team is gone.

The team did not start in the top 25 of all the polls last year and managed to make it up to #1 in all of the polls. Unlike the football polls it does not matter if you start in the 24 or not you have the ability to move up and move up quickly.

And we returned everyone from a 40 win regional team

Dex says hello… Much like the other thread imagining what this basketball team would be like if it had EP back for his senior year, I often wonder what the team last year would have been like with Dex back… He was our best hitter the year before he left, and even though we didn't need him last year because of how solid and deep we were everywhere, I can't help but imagine how much deeper and stronger we would have been with him…

We still wouldnt have been preseason top 25 with dex coming back and us not being preseason top25 or having dex didnt stop us from being ranked 1st. I'm sure if we had all the juniors back from last year we would be looking a lot better... But if they weren't good enough to get drafted high enough to leave early then we wouldn't have been as good. It is what it is. After what we lost I don't see why anyone expects more... In their eyes we return an all american SS... That's it. Win and we are right back, don't win and we aren't. 17 guys of our 35 man roster are freshman and sophomores.

Not disagreeing with your point, because I too believe we aren't top 25 right now, and don't deserve to be in the preseason rankings because of how much we lost. Was just pointing out that we did lose our most productive player from the year before, last year. And I'm not quite sure where you are getting this "we still wouldn't have been preseason top 25, because by my recollection, we were preseason top 20 in 3 of the 5 polls last year...
