FIRE SCOTT FARMER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
FIRE SCOTT FARMER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't take these rankings very seriously. Vanderbilt wasn't even the best team in the SEC last year and LSU wasn't even the best team in the state last year.
Anyone else think it's ironic that we (collective sports fans) "hated" the bcs system, but it was the only system that made sure that a 6th place conference finisher didn't win the national championship?
College Baseball has a tournament field of 64. It is very seldom that the number one overall seed actually wins the tournament and that is part of what makes it great. You don't have to be the best team to win a championship, you just need to be good enough to get in to the tournament.
LSU was a national seed last year and was eliminated from their regional by a team that is ranked lower than they are in this years preseason rankings. LSU also lost one of the best pitchers that they have ever seen in Baton Rouge. The point is, this ranking is ridiculous and wont mean a thing after the end of February so there is really no need to be upset about the Cajuns not being on it.
I'm ok with not being ranked right now. What does it matter? A single inning has yet to be played.
Besides, I'm one of those who believes you tend to perform at your best when there's a chip on your shoulder.
ETA: Oh...almost forgot
11. Fire Hud
12. Bush's fault
13. Obama's fault
I'm not. I want us to be a top ranked baseball program year in and year out and thought of around the country that way. We should aspire to that every year. To go from the #1 ranked team in the country to not even in the top 40 is puzzling. Yes, we lost a lot of players, but so did other schools and they remain perennial top programs. You can't get to that level by being in it one year and not the next. I know what matters is where we are at the end of the year, but having that ranking early has our name in the national spotlight week in and week out. We are trying to get a better conference affililation. The more recognition we have preseason, during the season, end of season, the better for us. A good pre-season ranking is good for our program. It will be great for football as well when we finally get to a point of being a pre-season Top 25 program. Pre-season recognition is something we should strive for and not readily dismiss, IMO.
We have a ton of questions and it a lot of very young unproven answers. If we started in the top 25 and drop a series or 2 early we would be out... Start in the top 40 and win a couple series early we will be right back in it. We gotta handle our business either way. This team hasn't proved they are even a top 40 much less top25 team... That team is gone.
The team did not start in the top 25 of all the polls last year and managed to make it up to #1 in all of the polls. Unlike the football polls it does not matter if you start in the 24 or not you have the ability to move up and move up quickly.
Dex says hello… Much like the other thread imagining what this basketball team would be like if it had EP back for his senior year, I often wonder what the team last year would have been like with Dex back… He was our best hitter the year before he left, and even though we didn't need him last year because of how solid and deep we were everywhere, I can't help but imagine how much deeper and stronger we would have been with him…
