So, a cricket to divert water once they construct the entrance portion, I'm thinking?

That is correct. The roof of the entrance will be higher than the eave of the main building. They will need the cricket to divert the water away from the roof facing wall of the entrance.

I had a cricket placed on the roof next to my fireplace. The water running off the roof caused a leak by the bricks. When I called a roofer about it he said that it was poor construction. The cricket has been in place for about 10 years now. No problem with leaks......

Drove by this afternoon and thought it was odd that the cricket appeared to be centered above two large support beams and the second floor appeared solid at this point with a framed wall below. Also noted a notch in the building side a little closer to the field and wasn't sure what it might be. I included a couple of photos.

Ok, what is a cricket? I did thousands of homeowner claims and never heard that expression for a repair estimate. Is it some type of diverter?

See the link in post 303 above. A cricket is used to divert water away from a vertical projection though a sloped roof. Typically a chimney, but it can be a wall, as it is in this case. It's a gable built on a roof. The ridge of the gable is parallel to the slope of the roof below.

If they did not place a cricket at the location we are seeing, eventually it would be raining in the main lobby of the entrance to the building.

LOL....me too: I had heard of a 'diverter' but never heard of a 'cricket.' Makes you wonder why/how they got to be called such.
