I'm sure that a brick facade could be added later to jazz it up. I think they chose to build it with all the amenities on the inside similar to a P5 facility. And from what I heard they increased the original square footage considerably which may have caused some "value engineering" on the exterior ....just my observation however. Although the metal panel exterior is growing on me and with some nice landscaping it could look pretty sleek.
The only side of the building that matters is the inside. That's where the players will be, that's where the recruits will be taken. That's what it was built for, the athletes and recruiting.... Not so people can drive by and say, look how pretty that architecture is.
I'm thinking Coach Hud and his staff and all the other coaches of the other teams that will use the weight room and training facilities are very happy about what they are about to receive. I am positive they had input on where each area was to be, how big that area is and layout of the building as no Architect would design a building of this or any size without long hours of discussion with the eventual occupants of the building. Every coach and staff member knows the challenges they have had in the past and they are that close to having many of those challenges disappear.
So true: I personally don't understand why this gross tete guy felt the need for his extremely harsh criticism of the exterior of the APC. To each his own, but IMHO a red brick building with arches would not have been the best choice here....while an industrial looking building fits in.
Plus, it is the INTERIOR that counts, and from what we've seen it is much more than what was in the MP. Most importantly to me Hud, all of the staff, and the students are very pleased with what is happening.
Once everything is completed, the cox building is gone and we have that great plaza, it will be fantastic.
An eye sore?
I saw a quote recently of Hud's that when he interviewed for the job he almost didn't take it because of the state of our facilities. Something along the lines of, "I figured when getting a tour I'd see a modern facility befitting an FBS program of this size. Instead I found a facility right out of the 70's."
That comment made me stop and think. I sat in the stands in early September of 1971 for our first game in Cajun Field. Santa Clara was the opponent. Cajun Field was brand spanking new at that time. I'm sure the Cox Building was as well. But since then there had been little, if any, money spent on upgrading those facilities. Decades have passed, more decades than I care to remember. Hud was dead-on, our facility was right out of the 70's.
After just a few short years with Hud on board, we're light years ahead today. Might I suggest you at least wait until the facility is completed before labeling it an eyesore?
We have a little over a month until our first home game. How are we looking towards that deadline?
