Putting red steel up for the main entrance to the building today.
They should be finished with that by Friday.
They started erecting red steel this morning (Sunday) in the fog. Looks like they are trying to finish the bump out for the entrance. I suspect they are anticipating rain on Monday and Tuesday. The rain yesterday has made the site a mess.
----Any difference between steel and red steel??? What's up with the Union, Quad, Soccer/track, demolition,etc-----And all this going on amongst great cut backs to all state schools----BTW is there any other construction going on??? I don't know if any of the building in back of the hotel on Congress is part of UL???
Red steel is a commonly used term to mean "structural steel". It is painted red in the fabrication shop or mill.
On this building they will have steel roof and wall panels along with steel stud work for wall partitions. Those pieces are light weight gauge thickness (sheet metal) material that can be cut with snips or abrasive cut off wheels.
Structural steel thickness is measured in inches (usually to the 100th of an inch.) I wouldn't try cutting these pieces with snips. You are better off with a torch.
Quad is progressing as the weather allows. The Union is finished. There is some interior build out going on for the post office. Book store is open along with ballroom and theater. The building sign is completed and all of the temporary fencing is gone.
I don't know when they will demolish old Corona, old Olivier and Guillory. Possibly this summer.
Is Boucher dr still blocked off? Wonder what the hold up is there.....the master plan shows that it is slated to become two-way, so maybe that's what taking time to get done????
It is partially blocked but there is traffic on it because there are cars parked on the street. I would think they will eventually get things figured out.
They are still not finished with the Post Office in the Student Union. It looks like it won't be too much longer.
The Bookstore is very nice though. I am still looking for the bulldog tile mosaic that was on the wall even though I know it's not there. I wonder if anybody bothered to save it or if it is in a million pieces in some construction landfill.
Yeah, I was wondering about the mosaic last week.
What about biddle? Are the UP just going to take over the entire space.....or will someone else be moving in?
Anyone going to be able to get pics and comments from within the APC once it gets closed in so that the interior work can be depicted for us all?
Looks like they are bringing in sheet rock this morning. Might be rushing things a little bit without the wall panels on.
