UL — The University of Louisiana defense and special teams scored early. Then the offense finished the job Saturday night at Cajun Field.
Aided by touchdowns off a first-half interception and blocked punt, UL scored two fourth quarter TDs — the last with 27 seconds remaining — to defeat North Texas 38-34 in a Sun Belt Conference opener.
“It took a lot of people and a lot of different phases to win this one,” UL coach Ricky Bustle said. “We didn’t play particularly well in the first half, but we converted three turnovers (into 13 points). This team just found a way to win.”
Cajuns cornerback Dwight Bentley intercepted two Riley Dodge passes and returned one 70 yards for a touchdown with 37 seconds left in the first quarter. Bentley’s second pick helped set up a 45-yard Tyler Albrecht field goal in the second quarter (13:57).
