I lived in Austin for 4 years and my wife is a Texas Ex. We went to a lot of UT games and while she wore UT gear, I always wore my UL red and white. I saw a lot of other schools represented at UT games as well and no one was ever hastle or questioned about it. And, we always went to the Texas Ex Alumni House across from the stadium. No one batted an eye.
We want people to come to our games and convert them to Cajun fans. If someone went to another school, so what if they wear their school colors as long as they are at the game. We will never build a following if we chase off anyone who does not bleed red and white. They might decide to come back for another game, then another, then start to feel out of place on their own and wear red and white to our games. In any event, they are a ticket purchaser and should walk away with a great game day experience. Let's convert them, why run them off?
I agree that people shouldn't wear those colors to OUR game unless those colors are represented on the field. I have a couple state alum friends who come to the game, go into the game, and cheer on the cajuns. I dont mind those guys so much because when I've gone to bowl games that don't feature UL I'm wearing my UL polo and UL hat. Now for the people that have no ties to LSU and still love to feature those colors that gets under my skin. When I was on student orientation staff and Upc we actually tried to have a movement to replace student's (which have no reason wearing anything but vermillion and white) other school gear with UL gear. It never started because some thought it could become harsh. I guess the point in all of this is that even though we try to encourage people, especially UL students and alumni, to rep. their alma mater, the band wagon effect of Baton Rouge's JC is like a plague in south LA. The important thing to remember is that at least these people are at the UL game, and catching hell from people like you and me for selling out to the polecats.
"All for the love of the cajuns"
I just want to say I had a great time. I went to alumni tent and ate jambalaya and drank beer free. The game was great. I sat with a bunch of good friends. My kids had a good time. The Abita beer in the stadium was awesome. We won. The facility was clean. The band was good. Geno Delafose before the game was awesome. The weather was good. Wish more people could have shared it with me. I have season tickets this is my basic experience every time.
where was the abita beer?
Does anyone remember a few years ago when UL had a program going on campus where people could turn in their old T-shirts from other schools and trade it for a nice new UL t-shirt?
Maybe there could be a contest between the tailgating groups to see how many people's shirts they could collect...AND distribute new UL shirts to those people.
Maybe the one's with a special shirt -- if they attend the game --- can be entered into a drawing for ____?
Maybe come up with something free at the ballgame for those new converts...kinda like a Bible at a revival...But only make it a hotdog at the ballgame...
I really like reading about the Ragin Cajuns. I love knowing so many different view points of all these amazing fans, but I would really like to know if anyone can think of ways a "regualr" fan can improve the attendance. I know a way to double it. Everyone that went to the UNT game, bring a friend to the next game. If you don't have any friends, try to ask your neighbor for a ride to the game, then tell them that they might as well stay to watch the game...hey, these ideas are better than most whinning.
Come on, give the rest of us a little peak at some of YOUR good ideas to increase attendance...
