Another idea if the Advertiser ever starts building up interest all week like they do for LSU attendance will go up.

I don't understand you post or even know what a Statewide USA Today photographer is.... but the Advertiser sent Brad Kemp, who is, without question the most experienced photographer to ever shoot in Cajun Field ever... I know his submissions are used often by AP and his pictures ran in The Dallas papers... there were games pregame, during the game, and post game... he even got the two interceptions by Bently that you mentioned...
Your arguments about The Advertiser might even be correct... I don't know, I can't get past the fact that your photo observation that suggests that somehow The D.A. "mailed in" their photo coverage of the game could not be more ignorant of what really happened.
The picture from the LSU game being discussed ran in Saturday's newspaper on the UL game day page, so it would have been impossible to have instead used a picture from the North Texas game. Pretty simple to understand.
The front page teasers on Saturday and Sunday were half UL and half LSU.
As for the DA's UL coverage: I write an average of 14 stories about the football team a week. Just as many during basketball and baseball/softball season. If that's not good enough I don't know what to tell you. These conspiracy theories some of you have are crazy. Talking about if LSU was in Lafayette and UL was in Baton Rouge and so on doesn't matter because that's not how it is. This week was different due to two top five teams playing in BR. Which game do you think the MAJORITY of readers cared about more? Again, pretty simple answer.
Don't expect the DA to pretend a top 10 team that brings in 90K-plus fans a game isn't 45 minutes up the road. We get more feedback on LSU than the Cajuns. More of our readers are LSU people based on that feedback and subscriptions. Those are facts. And that's AFTER I've been here for two years and we've bumped up our daily coverage.
Want a better program? You're blaming the wrong people. The DA isn't the scapegoat many of you want it to be.

As a MOMMA, I get my feathers ruffled when somebody talks bad about one of my "boys"...I want to jump in there and set them straight (with as much southern dignity as I can muster...) I know I am not your momma, but I am so proud of how you took up for yourself and the DA (I figured out those initials...it isn't district attorney, like I first thought). You do an amazing job as a sports writter. I was thinking the other day, that it is still football season and I have seen some basketball articles that you have written. That is an insane amount of work to write about more than one sport at a time. I hope that paper of your pays you by the word...because you are priceless to me.
Thank you Momma!

The Percy Guidry crew have been there for years and every time its the same thing with a large contingent staying outside to watch State. It hasn't changed. I'm tired of worrying about offending a bunch of folks (not just this tailgating crew) who support tailgating but not the football team where it is needed. Doc S need to have a come to Jesus meeting with whoever heads up that crew as well.
I'm in agreement. We are not at the point in the program that we've generated participatory excitement in that next level of available fans. The numbers of people at an event is indicative of the number of people interested enough to be there, at that point in time. There is no amount of prodding, insulting, guilting, whining, or any other negative gesture that will result in a positive.
There are ways of gathering a larger flock. It is not with a shotgun. I've joined perfectly good clubs that couldn't get but the first pass of membership. I've never seen anyone succeed in brow-beating their friends into permanent club membership. I have seen people who had enough self-confidence to be pleased that they were a charter member, didn't need to brag about it, and welcomed everyone else who came by and chose to join... now or at a later date.
When we have a big game, a nice day, and we bring in a fresh (or even the old disconnected group) load of people, the key is to capitalize on it. We need to host them as neighbors and friends and beat the c r a p out of the opponent on the field of play.
