I didn't get the Advertiser Game Day picture of an LSU player smashing a UL player. Couldn't they find a UL player scoring a TD to run? It's bad enough LSU got the headlines, the pictures and multiple articles. That seemed to be adding insult to injury. I don't get it.
You make a good point. Who wants to tell the Percy Guidry group they can't stay outside. They're likely to take their donations and travel down the road to BR with them. If the product inside the stadium continues to improve, eventually those people will move into the stadium also. Its easier to get them in the stadium from the parking lot than it is from their living rooms.
I think trying to force the few hundred folks in the parking lot into the stadium would be counter productive. You would just irritate them & the friends of those who invited them. Hell we got them in the parking lot, they're having a good time. The next time they will be more inclined to accompany the rest of us inside. IMO That would be one way you build interest. P----ing them off by booting them will not.
On a related note, am I the only on that noticed the game day program still listing the A&M game as having the highest attendence?
I disagree strongly.
Student section is a mixture of students and friends and young alumni.
I am alumni and I like sitting on the student side. I like the vibe and a lot of the guys like the fact I'm passionate and help get the students fired up.
Some of the students friends get escort tickets and they are not students. I don't think you want to start dividing it all up. You would be surprised how many non-students were at the game last night in the student section.
At least we showed up! If you want we can all stay in the parking lot too!
The bottom line is that we have our diehards who will be there no matter what, and those people number between 12-18,000. Then there's another 4 or 5,000 people who REALLY want to come, but won't if there's even a chance of rain because they don't want to get wet. There's another 10,000 people who could be part of the regular crowd, but they're going to come only if conditions are right. It's a fun atmosphere, but they want to go see a winning team AND they want to do it with the sun shining without lines at the bathrooms and concession stands.
I really think that we've been sort of snakebitten with the weather because it's keeping those 10-15,000 sorta-fickle fans away. If we have nice weather for homecoming, I'd get ready to have between 25-30,000 people there minimum. Winning is what's going to grow that diehard number from 12,000 to 15,000 to 20,000 and so on, but we're going to need good conditions and consistent play to get us there over the long run. The least of our worries are the 300 fans that stay in their tailgating spots during the game.
Excellent post. We can't force people to come to a game. We are all probably somewhat frustrated with attendance, but it's really not the end of the world.
UL has to keep doing it's part. Every time (in past seasons memory) we've gotten that big crowd... we've blown a win... McNeese... homecomings... etc.
This weekend's weather sucked, LSU VS FLA huge game, different festivals going on. I blame weather first... I go rain or shine... it's football time.
Marketing team needs to push the local media. Local media needs to cover UL harder and harder. So much to type... It'll be alright!
GEAUX CAJUNS AND GEAUX DIEHARDSWe got a big present Saturday night!
those extra fans that stay home also seem to forget its louisiana and Louisiana doesnt always have perfect weather haha
hopefully mr. Josh Parrott can get a good idea about an article encouraging fans to come watch ULL at the game. the more we advertise the lack of fans (even with a winning football team) the more likely fans will want to show up. but we need to advertise success and excitement.
This is actually the opposite of what I have been thinking. I think that we have done enough pointing out how stupid some people are... I would rather point out how smart the rest of us are. When I read a post that sounds whinny or negative, it turns me off...well, not "off" but maybe puts my thermostat to medium...Anyway, the comments that talk about how much fun... exciting... thrilling... amazing... the game was make me want to endure hail (or hell) or high water to be there.
Also, when I choose not to attend a certain "party," and then hear how much fun it was, I could kick myself. But when the host approaches me and starts complaining because only half the people that were invited showed up...well, I am kind of glad I didn't go.
Here is an idea how about the Advertiser use any picture from the game being played. Bentley had 2 pics and the last big tackle, did they have no pictures from the game because their editor sent the single statewide USA Today photographer to the LSU game again? Anothe idea how about the DA quit covering Baton Rouge and pay attention to the home team that is actually in your market.
