Yep, that's exactly it, Houston! The Advertiser hates UL and we'll do anything we can in our power to keep it from progressing.
I'm done with this site. Turbine, please cancel my account. I tried to be cool, but I can see that no matter what The Advertiser does or no matter what we say on here to defend decisions being made, certain people will never be happy. You know why? Because all they do is complain. Complain about the name (OMG did you see what ESPN called us last week?), complain about attendance, complain about the uniforms, complain about the helmets, complain about the schedule, complain about the athletic directors, complain about the tailgaters, complain about the Advertiser not covering UL enough.
It's that same negative attitude that has only 12,000 people showing up to the conference opener and 18,000 for a home game against a Big 12 team.
To the people on here that I have a ton of respect for, thanks for all the great laughs, insightful comments and information.

I didn't say you hated UL and I applauded you for the coverage you give, just didn't understand not giving UL a priority over LSU on the internet which you explained. Here is what you posted:
I know you want to think UL is bigger than that, but right now that's just not even remotely possible. You see, the way it works is every time there's a reason to get excited about UL (IE going 1-2 against three BCS teams to open the season), you get the harsh reality that only 12,000 people give a ____. A newspaper is only a reflection of what the community cares about.
_ I stand appropriately corrected. 12,131 give a ____ about UL vs. North Texas. Point being, don't get ____y because the stadium is empty when there is a nationally televised game between two, top-5 nationally ranked teams, going on 45 minutes down the road. Like I said earlier, Lafayette is an LSU town. I went to UL from 2001-2005 and it was no different then... UL would start off with a win, have a decent crowd, and then next week there were nothing but moms and girlfriends in the stands. Pathetic. _
Seems to me you are saying about the same thing CarlBlake22 said, people in Lafayette don't give a ___ about UL.
Dude, seriously lay off! Both of the Advertiser reps here on this site have explained the situation and how they have no control over the online version and how they write plenty of UL stories all week and how we have probably the best newspaper coverage for our school in the whole conference.
You keep beating this issue to death and its been explained numerous times. If you have an issue, take it to Gannett. For now, stuff a sock in it. We're tired of hearing it.
Now you've run off one of the biggest UL guys at the paper. Who's next to go, Parrott? No offense, because you have plenty of good arguements, but you have to drop this one here. The guys at the Advertiser do plenty and more for promoting UL.
UL'S ATTENDANCE IS NOT THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE ADVERTISER! And even though its not, they still do plenty to promote everything UL. Get on the alumni, get on the city, get on the Purple fans in the city, but it is most certainly not the Advertiser that is keeping people from coming out to games.
And if he's saying that, prove that he's wrong. Again, is it the city not wanting to come out because a majority dont care or is it the Advertiser not promoting it enough to motivate the citizens.
To me, the paper does more than enough. Its our responsibility to bring who we can to games, its the paper's responsibility to promote the games, and none of that necessarily ties directly to attendance because until we have a proven winner, the bandwagoners will stay at home on their *****.
We need to quit complaining all the time. We need to tell people what a great time we have at the game. We need to tell them what a awesome offensive line we have. We need to pump people about the product. We need to tell them what a great family atmosphere we have. We need to be more positive and less defensive. When someone tells you they would prefer to stay home and watch games on tv you have to give them a reason to come see the cajuns. How reasonably priced the games are and the tailgating and pregame band etc. I think this is how you get people to come. If you tell people what a great time you have at a game someone may want to come and experience it. The BSC has done its job of minimizing the importance of non bsc conferences to everyone including the alumni and fans of non bsc conference schools. It is our job to overcome this and say we have a good product that is fun to attend.
AT LEAST WE ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT ALL THIS USELESS STUFF AND NOT ABOUT THE PRODUCT ON THE FIELD. LET'S KEEP COMPLAINING ABOUT THE DA AND BUSTLE'S HEADSET LOL
Look, I don't know who you are, but I assume you must be the sports editor at the Advertiser. I am not trying to antagonize you. I stated that I appreciate all the advertiser does. I just asked a few questions as to why there is not more priority in internet placement of UL over LSU and responded that you have no control over that. So be it. CarlBlake22 made the statement that Lafayette people could care less about UL sports given the number of people that show up for games on a consistent basis. You basically said the same thing. I don't disagree with that statement either. I simply asked the question, Why? I didn't say it was the Advertiser's fault. In fact, I said in another post that it was UL's fault for not developing tradition and building up athletics all these years under Dr. A. That is all changing under Dr. S. I want the Advertiser to continue doing all that it does, and now that you explained your limitations regarding your internet site, there is little more to discuss. That you would stop coming to this site over those comments doesn't make sense.
I agree that there are alot of complaints / concerns posted, and I think to an extent this is good b/c it shows that people care about this school and its athletic programs. I think with the complaints maybe we could bring about some more proposed solutions also.
What we need is a REVOLUTION!! A RAGIN CAJUN NATION REVOLUTION!!!!
express to local business's that you want to see more UL gear for sale, tell them you think it would be nice for them to have their windows painted or a flag flown outside supporting the CAJUNS, tell you neighbors and friends about how much fun you had at the game and tailgating - then invite them, hell give them a ride to the game. ETC., ETC.
