I'm not a marketing genius, so this idea may not be all that great,
but what if the RCAF or the school or whoever got local companies to buy tickets to a certain game (i.e. Homecoming ) and then run adds advertising that the first ,however many tickets you get local buisnesses to buy, fans to game get free tickets?
So if we could get local companies to donate enough money to buy 10,000 tickets, then say first 10,000 fans at a certain gate get free tickets. So hopefully the faithful will still buy their tickets and then we will have an extra 10,000 people. You give tickets at the gate to ensure that the people go into the game.
Again this may not be a great or even sensible idea, but people like free stuff, so maybe we get them to one game and they keep coming back. Just a thought.
Again, we have little to do with the online format. That's handed down from Gannett. And our stories are put online by people in Monroe. Many times the order in which stories are placed is done wrong. That's out of our hands. Nothing we can do about it.
Also keep in mind that in this case these are complaints about getting something for FREE online. Again something out of our hands. Plus, part of the reason newspapers aren't all charging for content is because too many readers refuse to pay for it. Declining ad revenue and the inability to make up for that online (and giving away the product online for free for too long) is killing the industry. Again not our fault. But we're still here.
These are some of the obstacles we have no control over. Just things to consider.
Nobody gives a ____ about pathetic UL vs. North Texas game, seriously. It is like watching a pillow fight between to teenage girls. I don't like LSU either, but that game was a lot more appealing than the one at Cajun Field. And lets face it, majority of people in Lafayette are fans of "the purple abomination", whether you like it or not. Lafayette is an LSU town that just happens to have a university in it.
That is certainly the position that the Advertiser takes on this. Why is it that 42,000 show up for a meaningless game vs. Southern and 12,000 for a conference opener and a 2-2 team? If we beat WKU Saturday, which we should easily win or this season is totally ruined, the real test will come the following week for Homecoming. We had 28,000 last year vs. FIU. LSU will be playing Auburn at home. Will Lafayette come out in support of UL?
I stand appropriately corrected. 12,131 give a ____ about UL vs. North Texas. Point being, don't get ____y because the stadium is empty when there is a nationally televised game between two, top-5 nationally ranked teams, going on 45 minutes down the road. Like I said earlier, Lafayette is an LSU town. I went to UL from 2001-2005 and it was no different then... UL would start off with a win, have a decent crowd, and then next week there were nothing but moms and girlfriends in the stands. Pathetic.
