Thread: Defensive Holding Call ?

  1. #1

    Default Defensive Holding Call ?

Regarding the fourth down play in which defensive holding was called, did any you guys watching on TV get a chance to see a replay? If so, was the call legitimate. Being at the game, I have no clue about this. Masson did seem confident something would be called after he threw the incompletion. Perhaps he knew he had a free play. The last two home games are ones in which the breaks went our way. This is making up for 2007 in some way. In that year breaks went against us in the Ohio, FAU, and ULM games. That team was better than 3 and 9 and this team is not as good as the 3 and 2 record indicates. Execution must improve for us to have a winning season. Hopefully, "stealing" this game improves confidence and that will lead to better play.

I don't know if he would have been able to catch the ball, but the defender did have a hand on the receiver's back which obviously effected his leep from what i saw on the replay.

I'm not gonna complain, the refs screwed up a pass interference call in favor of UNT in the first, in fact it was on their first drive which resulted in the mean green getting 3 points. They didn't make up the call until the 4th quarter when the Cajuns were able to turn their favorable call into 7 points.

Simply put, these are the Cardiac Cajuns in every sense of that term! This team gives me heart palpitations! go Cajuns!

I'm not sure that the holding call was called on the LB that was covering Aubrey to begin with. Second, if it was a holding call, there's a good chance that the infraction occurred at the beginning of the route rather than at the time the ball got to him. But no, I did not see whether it was legit.

I was standing on the sideline in front of the play and he had his jersey from the back before the ball was thrown. I was surprised the official saw it, they usually don't call it. The infraction happened before the pass.

I didn't see any really bad calls except for a non call on delay of game on one of UNT's TD drives. UNT snapped the ball a full second after the game clock expired. It would have made a longer 3rd down play, but not necessarily a game changer.

i think the refs did alot of "oops i missed that call or blew this call....i'll make it up with this call" (blows whistle and throws flag) lol

but some were legitamite even though they were blowing calls left and right.

Official announced that the infraction occurred before the pass was thrown. That is why the call was defensive holding, not interference. In that situation, it does not matter if the pass is catchable or not. I am not even sure the infraction was against the guy defending the person whom the pass was intended for. Call went against No. 37 for UNT.

How about the double pass by Dodge. When he caught the deflection, I started yelling for him to throw it again. I remembered Jake doing it and knowing what the result would be.

He seemed thoroughly confused and I don't think he knew that was a penalty. He was questioning the official when they threw the flag.

Thats the mark of a young QB. Nobody knows that rules until they see it or it happens to them.

Maybe in highschool. All college QBs should know that rule. It isn't like I fault him for the kneejerk attempt under fire... but afterwards... he shouldn't have been looking at the ref with a "what did I do wrong?" He should have known. Today, Riley Dodge is asking if that footage can be stricken from replay.
