_ I disagree. Most of Masson's "poor throws" are in large part due to his receivers not helping him. What "open" receivers? They are unable to get any separation from any defender. That is the problem. Masson doesn't have open receivers to throw to. While I agree that the offense is very stagnant, I do not think it is Masson's fault. He has shown me a lot and has thrown some very good balls this year that have not been caught. You talk about one dimensional? McGuire did not attempt one pass last night and even when he was playing well, the coaches took him out for passing downs. I think you would want to see him play a lot more before I call for him to start. Also, last year's game featured the likes of Fenroy, Smith and Chery to assist Brad in his win for which he managed the game well but did little impress me any more than Masson has. I have no dog in the hunt whether Masson or McGuire starts is of little consequence to me and I just want the best one in. I just think that people are jumping the gun bigtime on calling for McGuire because he had a couple of decent runs last night. This offense went straight into run mode with him at the helm and didn't even look to pass and that will not fly once teams start gameplanning for it. I do not think the offense is necessarily any better with him at QB than with Masson and he seems to be more one dimensional than masson at this point. _

Look, I'm glad we won, but I believe we completed only 1 pass to our tight ends last night. I watched the game on tv in Houston and the replays showed poor throwing decisions over and over again. Why are the UNT receivers open on just about every play, yet our receivers can't seem to get open? Who is our receivers coach? Looks like either a very poor job of coaching and/or receivers who aren't very good. A least the receiver didn't drop the last one in the endzone after dropping one earlier. It is frustrating to see other teams receivers open play after play, yet our receivers seem to be well covered most of the time. I'm not sure Mason is a better passer than McGuire, but who knows. McGuire will run the ball and keep the defense more honest. No one seems to respect our passing game and stack up against the run. Why wasn't McGuire allowed to throw last night? It was very curious watching McGuire in just to run then Mason in to throw. A change might open things up more. To Mason's credit, he did take us to a win. Just my opinion, but we play like last night against better teams and we will get beat. We had two weeks to get ready for this game, get people healed and work on basics. This looked like a season opener.

Defensively, the middle of our line had holes open on them that even I could have run through and UNT is far from the best OL in the conference. They got blown out time after time and our linebackers were nowhere in sight. How many missed tackles did we have? I thought we went back to basics in our off week.

I hope this was just an off game for us. We play a weak team next week in WKU and should get this fixed against them before we get to the meat of our conference schedule.

All that said, we are 3-2 and 1-0. A good start to the season and a favorable position to be in at this point.

My humble opinion is we have a bunch of average to below average WR. No one is steping up probably because they do not have the athletic ability to do so. Going forward I would go with the QB that runs the zone read the best. Relying on our Oline and RB's is our best chance for success.

They were so worried about Dodge running the ball last night they left the middle open for the running back. Many of those big runs occurred when they spread us out with three and four wideouts. I agree with Metry in that our receivers are average and that we may need someone who handles the zone read more efficiently at QB. Masson can continue to start but McGuire can come in sooner if the situation calls for it.

i honestly think if we would use Ladarius Green like a colston/R. moss etc. (big tall receiver type) instead of TE and keep Aubrey at te we would have alot more success in the passing game. Green isnt necessarily a TE but because he has height they use him as one and i think that takes away from his abilities to be a true playmaker on the field.

Also if what im thinking is correct then the defenses would start to key on him more, thus helping the other recievers get open. It just depends on the Quarterback to find the open reciever and get him the ball.

as far as our actual WR's the only one who has actually been catching the ball with not as many drops from what i noticed was Louis Lee. Marlin Miller and #18(name?) are too worried about getting hit by defenders and i think thats the cause of so many drops.

Green is a TE. He does best when he gets a mismatch. Comparing him to Colston/Moss is not fair to him. He does not have that kind of talent. Like all of our recievers he need to work on catching the ball in traffic.

Completing one pass to a TE was not Masson's fault. How many times did you see Aubrey on the field in the first half? I didn't see him but only a couple of times. NT often double teamed Ladarius Green from the start as they know he is our biggest weapon. Chris threw some nice passes to him but he didn't help the QB by peeling off of his route and coming back to get the ball in tight coverage which is a basic fundamental that all coaches teach a player.

Just because McGuire will run the ball more doesn't mean it will keep the defense more honest. As a matter of fact, it will do the opposite as he is clearly more one dimensional than Masson is right now.

The UNT WR's are open more than ours because they are quicker and run better routes. Even our "fast" guys don't get any separation because truthfully, they don't run very good routes. Again, not Masson's fault.

Masson proved ALL of preaseason that he was a better passer than McGuire at this stage in their careers. McGuire apparently hasn't shown much progression there as the coaches refused to allow him to throw and maybe they are seeing something in practice to support this.

Bottom line is that until the WR's step up and we are able to incorporate more variation in the running game, Chris is going to be hard pressed to get the ball to the weapons in the passing game.

I'd estimate that this is the role that Green plays about 50-60% of all passing plays. He is often split out with Aubrey in the TE slot on passing downs.
