I love how we have guys that within days are upgraded or downgraded so drastically. One minute, Richard Brooks is out and now he's probable. This is the case weekly. Usually you will see a guy move up or down one status point like from Doubtful to questionable or questionable to probable and such.

My guess is that Benoit and Desormeaux are the only two guys to miss this game.

That's just it. You cover these guys daily and are often in communication with the players and coaches and even you can only guess. That is not a knock on you but a point made about how drastically our injury report changes on a give week.I have, for a long time, wondered why we are so vague as to our injury reports. If anything, make a premium folder where at least the fans can get some info as to who we will see playing. Several weeks ago, LaQuincy Williams was out but I saw him on the field against LSU. Its just crazy at times.

Do the coaches have ANY say-so in the status of the injured player? I was always under the impression that the physicians made this decision based on the most recent examination. All of our bodies respond differently to physical therapy etc. I bet it is really difficult to guess how some injuries will heal. I don't think the doctors are being fickle. They just change their mind based on the changing physical condition of the player. We all want to know right now who will play, but I personally am glad they are able to assess the situation and change their playing status based on how the injured player is currently healing...of course, I am a woman...I totally understand changing one's mind...no excuse needed...

Uh, this has nothing to do with the physicians, changing their minds, the body's ability to heal and response to therapy. The injury report is released on Wednesday, 3 days prior to the game. You are missing my point. My point is that injuries, if listed on the report, have a status of probable, questionable, doubtul, out etc.. These are like steps of a progression. You often see somebody listed as Questionable if they are 50-50 to play. Depending on what happens with treatment and such, they may be sometimes downgraded to doubtful or upgraded to probable depending on what happens in that 2-3 day period. However, what I'm stating is that many times, especially recently, we've seen players go from OUT to all of a sudden playing. We've seen guys go from probable which is a 75% chance they will play to OUT and not even dressing. In other words, there is a large disparity with either the condition that is being reported when the report comes out or the condition of the player as the game arrives. I know the coaches and training staff have the players' health at heart and will not put them in a position to further damage an injury but their methods of reporting status' is quite quirky

Thank you for taking the time to explain this to me. I totally understand your message this time and can agree with you. I'm sure the more seasoned RaginPagin participant followed your statement as originally written. Anyway, short of numerous miracles of healing (or otherwise), there does seem to be a discrepancy from one report to the next. I personally would like to save any miracles that might be coming to the Cajuns for GAME DAY!

Could it be that the "quirky" reporting is intended? You know, keep the opposition guessing. Unfortunately, this keeps you guessing also, but I don't believe that is the intention.

Zephyr: Keep in mind that the injury report comes out Wednesday - for Saturday games. This whole process is frustrating, largely because colleges are misinterpreting the HIPPA law. (Originally created to cut down paperwork, not keep coaches from talking about injuries. Coaches just need permission from the player to talk about it without facing penalty.)

Exactly. I'm just saying that there is something odd about what is released in regards to player status from Wednesday to Saturday. I don't have a clue why and I don't pretend to, it just frustrates me sometimes to see that there is such a discrepancy. I wish they would at least offer this information accurately through pay services or on cajunredzone in the premium folder. That is what a lot of the other schools do on their scout forums. They have premium services for which nobody can enter but members and they report this type of stuff.

I imagine that some players will be a Saturday morning decision. It may be like horse racing, they trot them around and see how they look :-)
