Yea, I remember. But remember, we got them through the door with the advertising and they won in an exciting atmosphere...and poof, they left again. They were sold an exciting product and they didn't return. What return on the marketing did we get for that 'fear the beard' promotion and the discounted season tickets for not reaching the 10,000 attendance in that last home game.

Are you that negative and miserable in your everyday life or just when it comes to the Cajuns?

Rebel, I agree Lafayette is a very fickle place. But like Crazycajun pointed out, it isn't expensive nor is it time consuming to throw a radio station a couple hundred tickets to give away and talk about the game. People listen to the radio. Radio advertising does more for business than TV advertising and is much cheaper. You get a few people excited about this game, and what happens… they come back again. Sure these people aren't going to be loyal die hard fans like all of us on here, but they may make an occasional game or two. Or they may have a great time and come back for the next home game while it's exciting, fun and the Cajuns are winning. We averaged large crowds down the stretch when we were winning and had the fear the beard promotions. No, they didn't come back the following season, but they were there for the last 3 home games.

Marketing should never expect a one game payback and bean counters should never forget to tally residual effects.

Just wish students were in class, could use the extra support. They messed with Coach Hunter a bunch last year.

The average on the season should be about $20,000 per home game.

Annual marketing expenditures -for each sport- should equal the head coaches salary.

I am aware of the cash flow constraints, but if they were to find a way to pull this off, UL would triple its investment.

I've hit the entire spectrum now. I've been labeled a sunshine pumper that will always look to the postives and now I'm the negative guy.

To answer your question, no I am not a negative person and my life is not miserable and I am not like that when it comes to this university. I am however a realist and a CPA that would prefer that we direct our limited funds to provide for a good return on our expenditures, like recruiting, coaches salaries, etc. things like that put a good product on the field/court and in my opinion, do more to generate revenues than marketing indo visual games.

That streak was followed by exploding egos and an attempted player coup.

It set fandom back on its heels.

Donated card board beards? Inviting high school students? Kids under 12 free? Radio station gets tickets that cost university 0$ traded for radio spots that are worth thousands $$. Give personalities tickets to give away for trivia. Hell, even ticket redemption night with unused tickets getting a 300 level ticket... I might be at almost a 100$ cost to the university. You being so against those things is being negative. Try to do a red out or white out or something. If you don't want to participate in any of that... Then don't. You don't have to rent a billboard on Johnston street to promote a game. Donate tickets to boys and girls club of acadiana, Boy Scouts whatever. Make an effort to pack the dome.
