    I also remember Tommy Lasorda was the key speaker at a high school baseball coaching clinic in the early 1980's held at USL in the Union. Warren Cromartie and Andre Dawson were also presenters. Very informative and he made sure that everyone in attendance had an opportunity to speak to him. I am sure this was arranged due to his close association with Mel Didier.

    I had an opportunity to interview him twice.

    The Dodgers had a string of Rookie of the Year winners four straight years (Rick Sutcliffe, Steve Howe, Fernando and Steve Sax.) I asked him who the next Dodger great was going to be. He said "we've got a guy in the minors that I think can be one of the best pitchers in baseball. His name is Orel Hershiser."

    Dude knew talent.
