So you're going to equate the whole game on one call and go on to compare Zaire to Jennings but, not mention the rest of the two teams statistically? Just look at the stats of the game. Jennings may never be a great quarterback because he currently lacks down field vision which makes him a single target quarterback. I truly believe a coach like Hud can turn an average quarterback like Jennings into something special. Zaire is really not that much better Jennings. He's average at best and has himself stuck in a two quarterback system. If he was that good he'd have the job all to himself. All you have to do is look at the statistics.
LSU total yards rushing: 285
ND total yards rushing: 263
LSU total yards passing: 151
ND total yards passing: 186
So looking at total offense both teams were equal. My point was that LSU has far more talent overall which should have well made up for their deficiencies at quarterback. I guess in your world Leonard Fournette having 143 yrd game has nothing to do with talent.
LSU's defense didn't show up probably because of Chavis leaving and they lost to a far inferior team. Again, the root cause for that loss is not talent it's coaching. LSU's defense swept the super talented Johnny Football both years he started. Believe me, A&M had the better quarterback.
The only thing I'm sorry about is that we got off topic. The whole point of my thread is to talk about the UL Coaching staff situation. I'm looking forward to see what adjustments he's going to make with the new defensive assistant coaches he will pick up.
It's sad that fellow Cajun fans have to resort to name calling.
I had to laugh when reading the records above. Things were so bad in 2004 that we had to stay positive by talking about our improvement because our winning percentage had increased from the record in 2003. Man it was hard to drink that Kool-aid. Life is so much better now.
And most of those coaches will tell you they win with good players. Coaches can't just create great QB's and they can't just turn average Joe's into terrific receivers etc... Obviously, coaching plays a big part in the success of a team but you have to have the players to do it also. There are so many intangibles that go into a great season and building a program and HUD brought that here. Hud won with mostly Bustle players. The year before we won 3 games. HUD gets here and we win 9. It wasn't necessarily because HUD found some way to improve the players in one short off season. I think most in the program would attribute that turnaround to many things, not just better coaching although it started with him and his staff.
