UL Golf Finishes Day One In Second Place
Through two rounds of play in 40-degree weather, Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns golf team sits tied in second place overall with a cumulative total of 591 at the Kansas Invitational in Lawrence, Kan.
After the first round, Louisiana was in fifth place with a team total of 301. But a second-round surge was able to vault the Cajuns into a second-place tie with Oklahoma. UL fired off an impressive score of 290 for the second half of the day, while most of the competition had trouble dealing with the cold and blustery conditions.
"It was playing tough today," said UL head coach Theo Sliman. "It was cold and windy and the boys fought hard. Maybe we weren't mentally there in the first round but they dug down deep and got after it in the second round. I'm proud of their effort out there."
Philipp Fendt was of three Cajuns who finished in the top-10 for UL, carding rounds of 75 and 69 to grab a spot tied for fourth overall at even par.
Kyle Pritchard posted a two-round total of 145 (+1) to wrap up the day in sixth place. Andrew Noto finished the day after shooting back-to-back rounds of 73 for a total of 146 (+2).
"It's great to see these guys playing well," added Sliman. "They started off the season strong and are continuing to play well."
Also competing for UL on the day was Thomas Petts and Ethan Savoy. Petts shot a two-round total of 156 and Savoy finished with a score of 166.
Missouri sits atop the scoreboard, two shots ahead of UL and Oklahoma. Missouri's Jace Long leads all golfers at two-under par.
The Cajuns will continue play tomorrow in the final round.
