Thread: 86-3 is $1,400,000

I would much rather see Kansas State and Illinois on the schedule rather than LSU, Nebraska, Texas, Florida etc. etc.

If the financial situation dictates that we play a top-10 program to get the really big bucks, please just schedule one of them, and certainly not back to back.

This is absurd. The two things are not mutually exclusive. I understand the necessity of scheduling "guarantee" games. But I also expect something slightly above complete embarrassment in those games. I didn't expect to win them, but last Saturday was a joke.

And the fact that so many around here are satisfied with that outcome because we got paid and satisfied that we made LSU "earn" their win is why this football program has been one of the worst in the nation for too many years. We were just humiliated and the consensus is, "oh well."

I don't think anyone is "happy" that we lost those games. The reason we play them is because to continue to play D-IA athletics it takes money. We are not alone in doing this. Notice I did not say to continue to play football we need to play these games. This money goes a long way in supporting the whole athletic program.

If some of you don't like playing these games, I'm sure the athletic department will be happy to take a donation of $1.4 million.

Undoubtedly! Some of these characters would ask for any coaches head, primarily because they believe only they he is not coaching the way they want him to coach. It gets wearisome.

Nobody's satisfied dude. People just cope differently.

And because we've had so much practice coping with UL football, some are pretty good at it.

If we go 7-5, I will care exactly 0% that we got blown out against LSU and NEB. If we go 5-7, those 2 games will reinforce my opinion that we need to go in a different direction.

Some of you might forget that many of these "guaranteed" games are scheduled years in advance. Illinois was horrible when added to the schedule but came off a Rose Bowl appearance when the Cajuns came to town.

Last fall, the school turned down playing Arkansas in 2009 for $1.1 million in Little Rock because it wanted a more winnable game. Then a home-and-home with Kansas State opens up. The Cajuns win that game, a huge victory regardless of how bad the Wildcats might be considering they're from the Big 12, yet I've heard few people give credit to the school for scheduling that game.

No need to worry everyone. When I win the Powerball jackpot Wednesday, I will allocate money to bring regional BCS schools to Cajun Field every year for at least the next 10 years.

I give major props to the adm. for scheduling that game... we need more of those!

Scheduling is very difficult due to the fact that you need two to tango...

I see it as a necessary evil. We get to see how we stack up against the big boys and a big pay check. It's not like we are the only school doing it. All of the non BCS schools schedule BCS schools. I would not be very excited if our non conference schedule consisted of teams like Akron, Eastern Michigan, Buffalo, New Mexico, etc. And I think if you ask the players how they like going into Nebraska and playing on that huge stage? I think they like it. I"m not saying they like the result but if I had the ability and opportunity to play in a game in Lincoln I would. Plus what Parrot said. These games are scheduled years in advance. We got K St. on a down year. We got Nebraska on their way up. It is what it is. I would like it even if we did not get paid as much. I like to see how we progress from year to year. Look at the K st. game. 2 years ago we would have lost that game. Progress. In 2006 we got blown out and did not compete against LSU. This year is a different story. Progress. I see it as a good gauge.

The bottom line is a program like UL needs two money games a season. Fill the other spots with other mid-major leagues (MAC, C-USA, etc.) and a I-AA every few years. You have to play the big boys for the money, plus as a selling point in recruiting. Yes, that matters to some recruits.
