Thread: 86-3 is $1,400,000

    Default 86-3 is $1,400,000

Well, I am no marketing genious, but if i were, i wouldn't try to sell the fact that losing 86-3 in the last two weeks is necessary. Thanks UL Athletic Gods for totally killing our momentum and pride with these killer Money games.
    When will we ever learn?

I'm sorry but this argument is pointless. The money we make is a huge chunk of our bank account. They are necessary to continue to improve our program. I dont like losing by that much, but no way in hell should you be combining the 2 scores like that in order to make our team look bad. They were 2 separate games and how quick do we forget how close we were to being in the LSU game. I'll give you the Nebraska score, but its time to move on. If we didnt take those games, we would be playing who? Get less money for another Big XII or what?

Would you rather us schedule the 2 money games first and start off 0-2?

Its the same cycle, all the negative people come out of the woodworks after the money games (not necessarily you Zulu).

You know what, I was p*ssed after the game on Saturday, but you have to move on because it's only one game. Let's not forget how well we played in the first 3 weeks. We have a week to get healthy and come back 3 very winnable games in the next 3 weeks. Will everyone asking for Bustle's head still be around when we are 5-2???

So instead of playing the 2 money games (which nets us anywhere from $800,000 to $1,300,000, [or ~10% of our athletic budget]), we should hold a bake sale?

86-3 sucks. But we need the money man!

So... if we don't play these games... and because of that we have about $1.7million less in our budget... and because of that we can't pay our coaches as much... and we can't send those coaches out on as many recruiting trips... and because of that we don't get as talented a group of players... and because of that we are not competitive in conference play, much less out of conference... and because of that our attendance per game is about 10,000... what would be YOUR plan to improve things.

Hopefully, with the RCAF and an increasing fan base (buying season tickets)... and one day a slight increase in student fees... we can possibly do without having to depend of money games. Unfortunately, that day is not now.

I have not read a lot of people calling for Rickey Bustle's head... Just questioning some of the play calling and game plan strategy.

God knows we are light years ahead of where we used to be and that is due to the hard work Rickey and his staffs over the years have put in. Not to mention the effort of many outstanding young men that have put on the Cajun uniform recently.

Some of you... need to relax and let fans be fans! Trust me when an individual CHOOSES to become a head coach they know they are going to hear criticism... I know I have heard my share as a coach! I also am humbled enough to know that some of that past criticism was warranted and learned from it. It is part of the JOB. I'm also sure Rickey and his staffs have thick enough skin to handle hearing it.

Guys... THERE WILL ALWAYS BE SUNDAY & MONDAY MORNING QB's! That is the fun of sports forums! If you choose to be a tax paying citizen and not sometimes question your elected/hired officials then fine. Just quit chastising those of us that do. I'm a tax paying citizen/Alum, former athlete, RCAF member, multi sport ticket holder and I think I have the right to question our elected officials/hired coaches sometimes.

We will "learn" to improve and play these schools more competitively... we've done it before... we can do it again. That is what we will "learn" from this.

I'm tired of hearing about the "money game" issue. When we have a monster budget, we can modify our schedule... like play 4 "money games" and compete in each.

You want to erase a problem with another problem. Life does not work that way.

Would we need money games if our stadium was FULL every time we played at home?
Not as many I would bet.

So get your whining, complaining, bellyaching selves and four or five of your friends out to Cajun Field. I will be there tailgating and rooting for the Cajuns come kickoff.

Last time I checked we play D1A football. If someone wants to pay us 750K to play we better take it. I don't care if our budget is 50 million, you have to take these easy pay days.

Are any of you unhappy at our last two loses willing to put up the 1.4 million?

No doubt the program needs the money, especially with the state cutting funds.

Then there is the old saying "To be the best you have to beat the best"

So yes it is disapointing to see a big loss like we did on Saturday, but at the same time we need the money. Hopefully the players, coaches, and FANS can look past it and move on and see the game as a "it is what it is" kind of situation.

Hopefully the money will be well spent on recruiting better players so that one day (hopefully not too far away) we can go into a game with a team like Nebraska and win.

The most important thing is that we rally behind our CAJUNS in two weeks when they come back home.

I think that there has been more money taken into the budget after 4 games -------with the 1.4 mill the last 2 weeks and the 58K attendance or more from the first 2 plus the beer ---we have to be way up!!!!
