Wichita State is a school that dropped football and their basketball got better. But for the most part, schools that do so do not see a significant jump in their basketball program.
Louisville, Kentucky, Duke, Kansas, K State, any Big 10 school. There are tons that play quality football and basketball. It isn't one or the other, never has been. If a university athletic department wants to compete at a high level in both sports they can. Memphis is another one.

I give up. All I'm asking for is an apples to apples comparison. There are programs that are mid majors that can do both. But they are few and far between. And, none of those schools is in the bottom five of athletic budgets.

Given the constraints, Rick Freaking Pitino couldn't win here consistently.

    None of those are mid-majors.

Rick Friggin Petino would have the stands full thus the money excuse gone.

Even Marty averaged over4k and some 8 & 9!k games vs UNO, LTU R, USA. Jay you gotta feed the Oxen the bible tells us. When you got a coach bringing in the fans they need to retain more of the revenue. Granted right now, no disdain intended, we are having to overpay a guy who for whatever reason is not bringing in the butts.

Hell, forgot we got drummed by around 20 points. Thought all was lost with NCAA tourney bid, but alas, at large glory. Yeah, the radiator bursting on a 3 year old car should had been a loud bell clanging of things to come...lol.

Jay asked for examples of mid major FBS schools that have consistent success in both football and basketball. All of the schools mentioned above are in Power 5 conferences, they are not mid-majors. San Diego State, Kent State, and Western Kentucky are examples shared to date and those are valid. His point is there are not many. Still, I think we have the resources here to join that club. I am not sure the community cares enough about basketball anymore to make it happen however. That is not just here, it is the situation most southern mid majors find themselves in, even if they are winning.

You either are in a FBS conference or you aren't. If Louisiana wants fit be as successful in basketball as they have been in football then Scott Farmer would push for more money and better coaching.

You're big on records. Minus FCS schools, what's footballs record outside of conference the last 4 years?

7-11 against FBS OOC games. You know how many wins came against teams that are in a higher rated conference than the Sun Belt? All 7, all 11 losses came against vastly more talented teams, minus La Tech.

If my numbers are right we are 29-5 in Sun Belt play in football that is an 82% winning percentage. If Bob Marlin won in the Sun Belt at an 82% clip he would have a 82-18 record in the Sun Belt and no one would complain about that.

How many mid-majors who are that successful in fball win at that percentage in bball? You may be able to prove me wrong, but I don't think it's that many.

Great point Jay - try to find a similar FBS member that wins at football, AND in basketball, AND has the same budget restrictions, AND state budgetary cuts, that exist.

    I think NONE.
