road win, in conference...im good
When I think of basketball that's what comes to mind. Lead changes, big leads, droughts, runs etc. It is a streaky game. Just like you, I want the team to do as well as they can, because we pride our university, but to be upset after a road win against a formidable conference opponent... Sounds like you won't be happy until we have Bo Lamar hitting shots from every spot on the court. Enjoy the win man, these ain't your daddy's/childhood Cajuns. All 300 something schools want to be the best...
Nothing outlandish, no outbursts..
Everything I said corollated. You and MR UL can give each other reach arounds another time, but not at my expense. Read wtf I wrote before you start typing. And if you also want to act like UALR is "tough" on the road, be my guest. My standards are not that low for UL Basketball.
Ok big guy.
UALR is not a perennial cellar dweller. They have always had a competitive team with Steve Shields as coach. It is not that long ago that they won the conference tournament in Hot Springs. Sort of nice to win a game due to the opponent having struggles at the line. Lord knows that shoe has been our foot more times than we would like. In college basketball, there is no such thing as a bad road win. In fact all wins are PRECIOUS but road wins are extremely gratifying. Who knows, maybe this victory will give them confidence and lead to more consistent play. I was not able to watch or view the game as I was at the Pelicans game in New Orleans. However, I reviewed the play by play and I was impressed that the guys had the mental fortitude to pull it out and not panic when things got tough. I was also encouraged to continually see the two freshman come up with big plays. Jonathon Stove played more than Brian Williams tonight. Nice to have options at that position now. The victory tonight means Saturday night's game against Troy has extra importance. Hopefully a few more folks can make it out there.
I repeat, UALR is not a cellar dwellar. I bet if you check the standings for the last 5 years or more you won't see UALR at the bottom. I won't argue that the league needs to improve in basketball. However, any night that RJ Hunter is hot, Georgia State has a chance to beat the big guys.
I'll be at the game.
I have respect for Shields, I do. I'm not going to launch into a post about excuse making, especially after a win, but I have a hard time saying UALR is a good road win. I understand what it means in conference and all that jazz.. I know the game, I've been following for a long time. But seriously.. Just 10-12 years ago, would that Cajuns program say "good road win at UALR". Revisionist history, and ancient history at the point to where we've fallen now, but I just want the expectations and standards raised around here. I miss the days of ranked teams coming to Lafayette or us playing and BEATING (or coming up just short) ranked teams on the road and us coming on here and saying "man, tough road game. Just missed it. OR Hell of a road win! lets go sweep the conference and prepare for the conference tourney".
