Either way Bob Marlin still has a losing record against D1 teams since his arrival. To me that is unacceptable in year 5. I really hope he turns it around and makes another NCAA appearance and proves me wrong, but I just don't see it, even after last years success.

We should win 9 times out of 10 against lesser opponents. But right now we seem to be the lesser opponent. Do you think we would be competitive against Louisville
    Or Tennessee?

That's great, he attended games 30+ years ago. Does he go now?

Really not questioning his fandom, he's obviously a Cajun fan. Only stating that if he doesn't (or anyone whose not happy for that matter), he's not helping speed up the process to getting this program better. Nothing more, nothing less.

Not speaking for him, but I know that if at all possible he is still at games.

Ya got me. I gave up my tickets this year because my wife has some serious health issues that require me with her almost 24/7.

But before this since 1989, almost every home game from LaPlace. Tens of thousands of miles, dollars & hundreds of hours.

But I have witnessed a total distruction of a once proud and important wing of UL athletics.

Hopefully my wife's health will get to the point I can start coming again. Yes even if Bob continues to struggle & even if we continue to lounge in the bottom SBC. BUT I'am in a declining base.

I worry for you younger fans and those not born. It was a great run in the sixties best ever going into the seventies. Just want y'all to experience that heady feeling. Knowing we were better than Pistol Pete and the evil empire to the East.

Sorry to hear that, hope she gets better.

Same here Express. Disagreements happen. Above all, I want health and happiness for all Cajun fans.

If we had more people contributing to RCAF, maybe we could afford to buy home games. Maybe we would not have to put our players on 10 hour bus rides after playing an OT game if basketball had a bigger budget as well.. If more people went to games, the budget would also be larger. Of course, losing to SLC teams on the road does not encourage more folks to come to the next home game. That is my answer, don't admit defeat-increase the basketball budget. I know that a separate RCAF and dedicated fund raiser would help in that regard.

Jay is right in that there are almost no southern FBS schools doing well in basketball consistently. La. Tech has done as well in basketball in recent years in that regard. Of course schools have a good year now and then as we did last season but I can't think of anyone other than WKU which has had consistent basketball success. They also are in a state which some don't consider completely southern.

Good luck with the wife's health Express. Was shelved from live/real time sporting events for a few years, know the feeling. Maybe that is why I see things the way I do now.

Maybe to explain this in terms the younger fans can understand. Remember that great baseball season last year? Although the basketball team back then never got to #1, imagine multiple years of being damn good. Conference was in the top 10 consistently in the nation just like baseball is now.

Television, well, I think how I was channel surfing the other day and saw Grand Canyon what ever playing basketball on my tv. Grand freaking Canyon. I understand television/ESPN becoming a player, however, EVERY conference that has moved up to D-1 has surpassed us. Even the one we left. Television did not cause all that. EVERY MOVE UP PASSED US UP. NOT ONE...ALL.

Sorry to some, we will agree that we disagree. I don't want our team's goal to be a big fish in a little pond. And I know I'm in the minority, but the idea of accepting an invite to the third level left overs tournament is unacceptable. That is, unless mediocracity is the goal.

To nameless who tagged my rep red with no name, you missed it. Read again. Imagine multiple years of what we experienced just this past year in baseball. Or being that good for years boggles your mind? Sorry you long for the smell of Marty's butt.

IMHO the amount of money to fix what is wrong with basketball is roughly $100 million. We need to move out of the Cajun Dome and build a new basketball specific arena where Blackham is currently located. It needs to have about 8500 seats and they need to be stacked right on top of the court. It needs horrible acoustics and require ear plugs for games.

Basketball began to die when we left Blackham.

You know how we got the dome? Was suppose to be a flat roof structure where Bourgeois is. Didn't have support from state, but urban legend is a certain politician got the votes for the dome with one condition...precast concrete structure. Sure you can figure out the rest.

I agree with you @ Blackham to a degree. For old times sake I went sit in the student section earlier this season. Other than 1 guy, I'd might as well been sitting in church. Polite clapping was the norm. We all have more passion after eating too much Taco Bell.

When we moved to the dome, a concerted effort was made to clamp down on students riding visiting teams. The combination killed the generational student passion. Throw in all the other variables, we now are what we are. Irrelevant.

Bird, I'm the one that sent you the old articles from the Milwaukee Journal/Marquette. Went to the old Mecca years back along with other long trips. I'm not new to the party. So I hear ya, but it's not all television and football's fault. It's our own fault for letting it happen with weak hires at different levels and not responding in a timely manner when things started to slide. That falls directly on the then AD's, president's and board's collective feet. We may never be that great again, but being the shiniest turd in the toilet should not be our goal.
