Getting to CUSA then matched up to play a Sunbelt school in New Orleans Bowl would suck. Time to embrace change for the better long term opportunities it presents to grow the program.

That depends upon you believing our leadership is doing everything they can to push for a C-USA membership. I've heard nothing recently to suggest they are at this time.

Any other bowl they could have been considered for or not. If the NOLA bowl was the only option, then you go with a smile. If the Cajuns are considered for another bowl that brings more money, better competition, possibly a chance against a P5 school, etc., then why wouldn't that be OK?

Fair enough, maybe more fans would want a change of pace and go to Mobile or Montgomery instead. I think if we sold 30,000 tickets in either of those places would be phenomenal while the same number sold in New Orleans was our worst yet.

Agree that any opportunity to play P5 is worth it, no matter where.

Your point about another bowl bringing in more money I find invalid since we'd have to share it with our conference anyway, so what's the point? Hey with that attitude, maybe we should go to another bowl and let our slacker mates pick up the tab for our travel!

Not what I said at all, in fact I stated I hoped that every day I opened this site I hope to see endless threads about us getting out of the Sun Belt.

I didn't read into Jays column that we should not move to CUSA.

Same here. I think the article was directed to those that have the perception that other bowls are open and available or that membership in CUSA would result in "better bowls". I did not in anyway perceive him to say that we should stay in the SBC and not move to CUSA because of the New Orleans bowl. That seems to be what CajunT is implying.

I hated the idea of moving to the WAC but would really like to see us get into CUSA and I'll bet money that Jay would like to see us in CUSA as well. As usual here on RaginPagin we've managed to mix up at least four different subjects in one thread.

By the way Geaux Cajuns....I mean UL.....I mean Louisiana.....oh forget it I give up.

Bottom line everyone posting in this thread wants nothing but the best for us all and we all agree with 99% of what is said but unfortunately online postings leave a lot of room for interpretation and imagination. I mean Just1More's post sometimes keep me up at night....and not in a good way. :-)

Like I said I don't take issue with the things being asked in this post and agree with almost all of it but back to the original post I just didn't tie " I like the New Orleans bowl = we shouldn't move to CUSA".

Here is where my disagreement is in the blog.

But nothing could be further from the truth.

I completely disagree with this statement. If you are still in the SBC and are going to the NO Bowl when it is available, you are indeed stagnant. It means your program has not or can not attain anything greater then the New Orleans Bowl. By definition, that is stagnation. (To show no or slow growth).


The reality of the situation is, unless the Cajuns make it to a Big Six bowl game (Sugar, Fiesta, Rose, Peach, Cotton or Orange), there is no better bowl for the Cajuns to play in than the one played the weekend before Christmas in New Orleans.

Reality is, there is no in between bowl for the Cajuns that would be better.

The Sun Belt Conference has three bowl tie-ins: New Orleans, Mobile (GoDaddy) and Montgomery (Camellia). Those are your choices. Pick one.

And next year the Sun Belt will add the bowl game in Orlando. Great, I've driven to Orlando three times in my life, its no great drive. How much would it cost a family of four or more to fly to Orlando Florida this time of year? Outside of the bowl in Hawaii and the Bahamas, its just as bad and almost a costly.

All other bowls are contracted to other leagues. In other words, unless a league can't fill it's slots, bowls like the Liberty, Independence, Texas, Armed Forces and the like simply aren't available.

In most cases this is correct, but it wasn't until Oklahoma State upset Oklahoma and UL lost to App. State that the Armed Forces Bowl was completely out of the question for UL. And this will be the case most seasons. But there is no guarantee that the New Orleans Bowl will be available to UL in certain years unless they are the SBC champion. So there are no assurances that will be the case every season either. At that point, is the Go Daddy or Camellia Bowl more attractive then the Bowls in Houston or Dallas?

Again, let's go back to the original disagreement in the question of stagnation. Four straight seasons of 9-4 and bowl wins in New Orleans. Fantastic, beats the heck out of 40 years of mediocrity. But at some point going back to the same bowl without options will get old and if that is the best growth your program is showing after millions of dollars invested, it is indeed stagnation.

As for the core of this thread... I agree with Jay's accounting of the NO Bowl for UL. But, if it in any way is a set up to support our SBC current membership... or a preparation for our failure to get into CUSA... I disagree with it. We are infinitely better off getting in CUSA, whether it decouples us from the NO Bowl or not. And our admin needs to pursue getting out of the SBC with an attitude of intense desperation... above all else athletically.
