Thread: Only One Bowl Better Than New Orleans From the Bird’s Nest

On Christmas day with the in laws we started looking at reservations at WDW next year just in case.

Game will be on December 19, which will likely be the same day as the New Orleans Bowl.

WDW on Xmas week is expensive. So I priced both possibilities of: game then few days at WDW, and few days at WDW then game. Few hundred dollars cheaper to go to WDW first then game, but school would still be in for kids.

I'll take NOLA again or Cure Bowl in Orlando too... If we don't make an access bowl game.

I'm saying that is a short sighted view because you are placing the value of the New Orleans Bowl over what is best for your overall athletic program, including football. The opportunity to play in a more regional conference against potential rivals such as Rice, Southern Miss, Louisiana Tech, North Texas and UTSA alone supersedes the opportunity to play in the New Orleans Bowl. What happens when the New Orleans Bowl takes the champion and UL gets sent to Mobile or Montgomery? Do you and others actually think that possibility is better then playing in C-USA or one of their bowls?

There is no debate that playing in the New Orleans Bowl is great for UL, its fans and the program. We moved beyond that debate, the discussion is about what is best for the program long term. What Jay is suggesting is that moving to C-USA may not be that great because of the New Orleans Bowl. Unfortunately he is selling what the administration believes which in my opinion will hurt this program in fundraising and growth, not to mention attendance. The argument is short sighted and puts the value of possibly attending the New Orleans Bowl over the benefits of playing in a conference with regional rivals, helps recruiting in both football and basketball, and attendance. If you believe going out and selling Phase II in the Sun Belt is a winning proposition, good luck with that one.
BTW, how much of phase II has been raised by our team of intrepid fundraisers? I figure we should be real close to that number, right? What was it? 50 mil?

Of course the program is capable of much more. Of course getting into CUSA is desirable; however, that is not our current situation. I hope daily that I open this page and see nothing but threads about us leaving the SunBelt (sure would beat having to hear about the name thing all the time!). I think what Jay was saying in his article is that even if we were in CUSA, what bowl that has been played would you prefer us to go to? What CUSA or SunBelt bowl is better for us than NOLA?
And that, my friend speaks volumes! Thats something else our Administration has dropped the ball on, they know we will eventually tire of fighting the good fight and just give up. ____ that.

Not what I said at all, in fact I stated I hoped that every day I opened this site I hope to see endless threads about us getting out of the Sun Belt.

I didn't read into Jays column that we should not move to CUSA.

If Miami won the Orange Bowl 4 years in a row, UCLA the Rose, LSU the Sugar, etc then those teams would be considered some of the greatest teams ever. I'm not saying the Cajuns are the greatest ever, simply stating that the perceived home game of playing in NOLA does not diminish our success in the last four seasons.

Only reason I'd like the Cajuns to play in a different bowl would be to make it easier for me to attend, anyway, West Virginia doesn't host a bowl so there goes that!
I disagree with your use of "only". I would have wanted the Cajuns to go to a different bowl, but I am more than pleased with their four bowl win streak.

Jeb, for the purpose of conversation what different bowl did you have in mind? I agree four bowl wins in a row is great no matter what bowl...except maybe the ULM Toilet Bowl!! BOOM, first ever ulm slam!!!

What is he saying? If we are in C-USA what bowl would you rather attend? Sounds to me like he is suggesting that C-USA offers no better opportunity then the New Orleans Bowl. I would agree with his suggestion should UL be assured of the New Orleans Bowl every year if we are bowl eligible, we are not. Again, my point is the New Orleans Bowl doesn't supersede the overall importance of conference affiliation for this program. But we are not assured of the New Orleans Bowl in years were they have to take conference champion.

Any other bowl they could have been considered for or not. If the NOLA bowl was the only option, then you go with a smile. If the Cajuns are considered for another bowl that brings more money, better competition, possibly a chance against a P5 school, etc., then why wouldn't that be OK?

I read into it as we need to enjoy what we have now because when we do move to cusa, the bowls available arent as convenient for the fanbase.

That depends upon you believing our leadership is doing everything they can to push for a C-USA membership. I've heard nothing recently to suggest they are at this time.
