UL — If college deep snapping is considered an art form, Scott Hayes has backyard videos to prove that learning the technique isn’t all that scientific.
All Hayes needed was a basketball and a friendly game of horse or pig.
“I would stand around and clown in the yard (with a basketball) with friends, trying to make difficult shots and I found I could snap it from between my legs into the basketball goal,” Hayes said.
“Seriously, I became pretty good at doing that and that’s where I starting developed a technique.”
It might have been a bit unorthodox, but the basketball tricks around the house earned Hayes a University of Louisiana football scholarship and some serious career statistics.
Hayes has been pristinely accurate since his redshirt season, sending 342 consecutive perfect snaps from center back to the punters and holders.
