I hope, for him, that you are right about being on an NFL roster. I also hope that he gets drafted after a stellar career here at UL. But please stop setting those expectations so high before the kid has even won a collegiate game. He's thrown 3 passes (arkansas) against competition better than the worst conference in college football.

As for our OL... part of a successful pass protection barrier is a QB that punishes blitzes. We have to have dink and dunk passes that involve slot receivers and TEs to dump off and exploit the open backside of an overly ambitious pass rush. A good QB sees what's going on and makes that happen. I don't know if Brooks or anyone has those high end skills. But, that is what helps neutralize defenses. I'm not saying we don't need better OL pass blockers. But you don't only blame them for QB pressure, any more than you entirely blame the QB. It's a dance... and a lot of people have to play their parts. An OC and really smart (I didn't say "big arm"... I said "smart") QB can eat up most teams in the FBS. I'm looking forward to the smartest QB winning next year's QB contest. Intelligent ball distribution to the skill people we have... is going to be fun fun fun.

I still stand by my statement. He may not win the starting job, but if he doesn't it will be because of philosophy not ability.

Next year our best athletes will be at the WR position and it won't even be close. McGuire is a great pass catching RB and he is not a back that can carry the load as the primary back. The NMSU game severely hampered his next three game outputs.

Riles, Fuse, Robinson, Scott, Bates at WR and Barnes and Byrne at TE we will be very dangerous in the passing game. So in a sense you are correct, you cater your offense to the talent you put on the field. All signs point to a dangerous passing game.

IF only if Haack plays or Jordan Davis beats out Haack. Nixon is not a passer, he is a Broaway light in passing department. We are geared towards a passing team next year and what a waste it would be with no power back to ruin the prophet half way through the season as a feature back who would get bruised and become limited. Th prophet is a multi dimensional player whose all around talents should be used. We are geared towards more passing but its whether or not HUD gong to rest on what works MOST of the times ( sun belt teams, southerns of the world ) to maintain status quo vs change of pace to finally beat a big boy on the block

Food for thought: Katy TX offense when Haack led them to the 5A state title and state runner up his Jr/Sr years (TX 5A is the most competitive in nation) would be very similar to Baylor/TCU of today.

It's not QB play I'm concerned about.....it's the OL. Brooks has proven skins on his wall/leadership pedigree to execute a Baylor/TCU type of offense at a very high level. Albeit, in limited playing time with UL, over two years we've seen a fairly good sample size of his passing that suggest he will be quite effective (79% completion rate for career is exceptional). & Not just Brooks, all our QB's success will be defined by the OL play next year.

Our staff needs to go all out on OL recruiting to get quick/agile ready to start day 1 OL. HS, transfer &/or JC.....whatever it takes. This is where UAB transfers IMO could be quite beneficial. They won 6 games.....safe to assume they have 1-2 ready to compete OL transfers worth considering.

If it were that easy to just go out and get O linemen that can protect a pocket passer then everyone would do so. The guys you are talking about are all at P5 schools. The reason the zone read is so popular is that it makes the D Ends stay home and not be able to shoot up field. If the DEs we play against dose not have to respect the QB keeping the ball and can just get in a track stance and bring it on every play it will be difficult on any tackle we have to block them.

How can you say that. He has been here 3 years and can't beat out Broadway who I do not think is an NFL QB. Or are you saying he is this NFL talent that the coaches have had on the bench behind non NFL talent just because. If he can play in the pros then surely he can beat out Broadway.

The air raid is also popular bc it helps get the QB a little more time. Widen out the OL splits and give the DL a longer route to the QB. Also built to get the ball out of the QB's hands quick.

Before anyone overreacts, no I'm not comparing Haack to Brady. I'm just saying that coaches have put NFL QBs on the bench before.

A dual threat QB that can pass is obviously killer, like Bway showed in the bowl game a few weeks ago and most of 2012 some of 2013. But I think we are in the best shape for 2015 with the person who is the best passer, period. And from what we know so far that looks like Haack obviously. And I personally have no use for Nixon if he can't keep from getting high long enough to stay on the team for any length of time, regardless of his athletic ability. We don't need that kind of "leader" as the forefront of our team imho.

To me Eli is the equalizer. As long as we are able to get someone in to at least somewhat fill the gap for Alonzo and not have Eli running as an every down back, if we can pass the ball downfield to Robinson, etc. , run the ball with Eli and feed Eli the ball in the flat .... we can light things up next year. When they can't get the run game going and can't get downfield all they need to do is have Eli in flat for a screen passes and have him light things up. Just like he did in the Boise game.

And Boom, in the beginning, Hud struggled to make up his mind between the three (Masson, McGuire and Gautier), we all had opinions on that as well.

None of us are at all practices, all meetings and all film study. I remember a Super Bowl coach (Ditka) once saying that Jake Delhomme was a terrible practice QB. Once he got his chance in Carolina, he still could not beat out Rodney Peete to start out the season.

We don't know what is going to happen, I hope that Haack is the QB, because, from the sidelines, I think he is the best we have. But I could be wrong. Hell, Coach Hud could make a decision and he could be wrong. Admittedly he has been wrong before with this same decision.

We all need to shut the >>>> up and let the guys who know what they are doing make the decision, if they are wrong we can all blast the decision, if they are right, we can bask in the afterglow.

That is the advantage of being a fan, rather than a coach.

----And you sir are right on the money with the exception of sometimes the coach is WRONG---Been there and done that!!! BTW I will never forget when I first saw Gautier and his having the HS credentials that he had----Bootleg roll to the left and pass to the flat going to his dominate arm---I was sitting with my buddy Luke and said this is the real deal!!
