No they don't. Haack will be a Jr. Davis a redshirt freshman. That is 2 years of separation.

This would also give Davis the opportunity to mature as a player and develop more of that raw ability we keep hearing about. Imo you want a QB to develop for three years and start for 2. That to me is a sign of very good recruiting and player development.

You make a good point. We just haven't seen this very often. We are actually "reloading" instead of "rebuilding". It's a good feeling isn't it!

To add a bit of a different spin to this discussion. If Hud team's (or having started Broadway) have proven anything, its that we don't need "great" QB play to be a good team. If Haack or Davis can come in, make good decisions, protect the ball (like Broadway the majority of his career) and at least provide the THREAT of running (or passing for the matter), we can still be a very solid team next season. This will be, IMO, the true test of Hudspeth and his staff. I understand that he built the team up in his first year, but that group of guys had a lot of talent. Next year will include a possible shift in philosophy, unproven talent, and many unknowns.. Should be interesting.

Haack will be a Redshirt Junior and Davis will be a Red Shirt Freshman.

But what if both HS commits come in and are better than both? What happens then? A lot to think about.

Then you redshirt both and get them into the routine of college life. We have to remember that these are college kids and school comes first. If you have an All American that can't stay eligible because of grades, what good does it do? We have two perfectly capable QB's that have been in the system, I think with that kind of situation you have the luxury of getting those guys a year of scout team practice without wasting a year of eligibility.

Should mcguire have been redshirted since we had a stable of capable backs already?

IF they come in and are better, you don't just redshirt them bc they are young. Just like Elijah, if they're good enough, you play them. Now.

Look, Haack will get the first shot at starting. IMO he will be the starter at the beginning of next season. He may be on a short leash because Jordan Davis sounds like he could be legit. But, Haack knows this system and will show how good of a QB he can be within the first 4 games cementing his spot as the starter.

Look, Desormeaux couldn't unseat Jerry Babb even though the offense was more explosive with Des in over a limited Babb. Loyalty and trust does play a role in who starts at QB more than any other position.

Agreed. He is in the driver's seat. If he is not the starter week one, will all of you put it to bed? There is no reason other than ability to keep him from starting.

----How about the time that was wasted not playing Gautier??? He could have been the difference maker----Well we got Hud because of it!!!

And Boom, in the beginning, Hud struggled to make up his mind between the three (Masson, McGuire and Gautier), we all had opinions on that as well.

None of us are at all practices, all meetings and all film study. I remember a Super Bowl coach (Ditka) once saying that Jake Delhomme was a terrible practice QB. Once he got his chance in Carolina, he still could not beat out Rodney Peete to start out the season.

We don't know what is going to happen, I hope that Haack is the QB, because, from the sidelines, I think he is the best we have. But I could be wrong. Hell, Coach Hud could make a decision and he could be wrong. Admittedly he has been wrong before with this same decision.

We all need to shut the >>>> up and let the guys who know what they are doing make the decision, if they are wrong we can all blast the decision, if they are right, we can bask in the afterglow.

That is the advantage of being a fan, rather than a coach.
