So based on what you just said, no QB has ever had a terrible first game as a starter and been good the rest of his career? The fact is NO ONE played good in that South Al game. The coaches didn't perform and not 1 player performed. Haack might not be the best guy for the job but to say we will be awful if he starts next year is plan dumb. We might be awful if he starts or we might be great. No team is ever sure about what will happen when they replace a long time starter and that is at any level.
I like what I have seen out of Haack in his limited playing time but if he starts next year we will have growing pains in the offense but we will have the same growing pains if Nixon or Davis starts. No one becomes a better QB sitting on the bench so these guys will learn on the job next year. the good thing is that they will have McGuire as a safety net.
Haack tool 4 snaps at south al and we were down 17-0...he didn't fumble twice.
So...we're not talking about coming up with a victory. We're talking about being able to complete passes to receivers and make these progressions that everybody keeps talking about which makes him so special. What I saw of Haack in his first and only start was a youngster who played like a youngster. There is no doubt it was a horrible game by everybody BUT he's not excluded from that assessment. Like everybody else, he has shown me promise but he hasn't proven it on the field and ultimately that is all that matters.
This thread will be epic.
I can't wait till Boomer starts calling for Haack and Ray to play dual QB....
Did I miss something are the Cajuns playing in the NFL next year?
You have just made an excellent point for the dual threat QB in college. Those were 2 of the best college QB's in the last 20 years. I could care less what our next QB does in the NFL if he is anywhere close to what Johnny football or RG3 was in college.
My argument isn't for or against him, everyone on the roster should get a fair shot and best guy get it but to examine what happened at south al as haack's future is just wrong. The team got their azzes kicked and it was far from any one persons fault much less haack's. I was there, kid didn't have a chance.
