I'm not concerned with who replaces TB so much as who replaces Alonzo. That would be a prime slot for Nixon.
Is anyone else as sick of dual threat QBs as I am? Sure, they're exciting and they typically do better quicker, but defenses always seem to figure them out eventually. Just look at Gauthier and Broadway. Gauthier came in during Hud's first year and played great. Then his senior year he regressed before he got hurt (which is another issue I have with dual threats...they are usually more injury prone). Broadway then came in for Gauthier and played amazing. He had a different style than Gauthier but they were both dual threat. Then the last two seasons Broadway has regressed as well. He just wasn't as effective as he was that first year. Maybe dual threat QBs tend to rely on their running too much so they never figure out how to read defenses and they never have to develop patience in the pocket. I dont know. But this always seems to be an issue and for once, I just want to see an offense-with all this talent-being run by a pocket passer.
My memory says Gautier was hurt his Jr year and was not given a real shot at retaining or regaining the starting role for his senior year.
I may be wrong. ?
Dual Threat last 4 years
9-4 bowl win
9-4 bowl win
9-4 bowl win
9-4 bowl win
May the best QB win and I'm sure he will...don't care if it's arm chair NFL style or dual threat College style. Get in there and get W's.
Not doubting the Ws. But this season was the first time in a while that we started the same QB all season. And it just seems like our team would be that much more effective with someone who can throw downfield accurately and not panic at the first sign of pressure. Maybe we could even win some of those games we've lost. And when we've lost, QB play always seemed to be a the top of everyone's list. It's just my opinion. I'm very grateful for Gauthier and Broadway and what they've done for this program. I just think this team could take the next step with the right pocket passing QB.
