Nixon is a no-brainer as a replacement for Harris.
Starting Brooks allows for Nixon to contribute at the same time.
Besides, I like having 2 guys in the backfield at the same time who can throw it.

Stokley recruited Brian away from several big schools that wanted him as a RB, by telling him he'd immediately start him as a QB. Immediately. He would not have come to USL as a RB. There's no comparison to any QB we have now and the situation with Brian. If anyone thinks Brian would have agreed to play RB at USL, behind Jake (a QB from Teurlings that only USL offered a scholarship) they'd be wrong. And if anyone thinks Jake would beat him out in spring practice, they'd be wrong. Jake came into his first game in the second half, as a freshman expected to redshirt, only after the 3 QBs ahead of him threw 5 interceptions in the first half.
---Well I remember being the only Gautier guy, the guy that wanted McGuire in over Harris because he was the best player ever at UL, thought that Butler was a VERY VERY good receiver and needed to play more, that Byrne was gonna play early, that Crawford's HS film was terrific!!!! etc---I look at the QBs from Miss St and OSU and see that we have one just like them and say let him roll!!!

From the list of schools that offered, he was being discussed as a QB, RB or DB. I think you're right that LSU and Arkansas wanted him as a DB. He wanted to continue playing QB. I'm still surprised that while at USL, Brian, at 5-10 and under 200lbs, benched 340lbs. That while he was our QB. He was so competitive, that coaches could not keep him from lifting heavy.
