The pass to Pettis was thrown in the ONLY spot that it could be completed, as was the pass to Riles. The Pettis pass was a back shoulder throw to create the separation necessary to complete the pass. It was only a bad pass if you consider every back shoulder throw made by Peyton Manning or Tom Brady a bad pass.
The Riles pass was thrown to the only spot on the field that was both safe from interception and possible for our guy to make a play. Did Riles make a great play? Sure.. but the only reason he COULD was because Haack put the ball exactly where it HAD to be to give us a chance.
