There wasn't "great separation" established at any point on his missed deep balls, but I did feel with a better timed release (earlier) 50% of those would have gone for completions. I was impressed that, despite those balls being underthrown, that our coverage guys were reading the receiver/ball and got into position, rather than the common interference that usually occurs in those circumstances. In other words, despite Jefferson's poorly timed passes on the deep balls, we covered exceptionally well. UL more than countered those "what ifs" with dropped passes tossed right in open players' hands.

But, UL failed to capitalize on about 6 LSU miscues. LSU did not fail to capitalize on any UL miscues. Those "what ifs" are the critically important differences I think people are pointing out. Your blanket statement about every game has "what ifs" does not take into account the specific games where there were a balance of miscues on only one side. That happened in the LSU UL game. It wasn't a talent issue... IMO it was a "nerves issue".

I think the worry at halftime of the Troy game was way more than the worry at any point during the UL game (except prior to kickoff).

My opinion of why the UL game was so much closer than the score was not the missed passes and picks. Those were painful. But, it was the ball played on the field as a whole. I also believe UL's goal line TD was a TD, the safety was a safety, and a critical third down conversion by LSU wasn't a first down. There were no equivalent poorly called plays that in any way assisted UL. With no changes to the play on the field... but better calls by the refs... the score would have been much closer.

I have some very sharp and honorable LSU football fan friends (way above the average... and I know the average ones as well). They totally agree with my assessment of the game. The only thing that puzzles them is if LSU may be a lesser team than they have had in the past many years and does that account for a much more evenly played game... especially what went on in the trenches. We shall see. _
"What if" I depart this thread with an I should've known better!

Good luck Saturday with the Cornhuskers and the refs.

Your pretty much saying when the time comes for UL to be at the top of the pile your going to stop supporting them because they will no longer be the underdog. Who you gonna support then? ULM? Tech? _
No...I pretty much said that like to watch from the bottom up, not when they're already up...I know that you're being cute and you're not really a smart ass... Actually I lived in Tampa in the 90's when the Bucs were horrible and believe it or not I still didn't care about LSU...My family went to USL and that's how I ended up here...If I'm lucky enough to be here when UL starts rolling, then I'll be lucky enough to be here to support them when they're winning. When I lived in San Antonio, the Spurs were horrible...when I left they got David Robinson and had the largest turn around it NBA history...I've just had bad luck and have always been around teams on the bottom. Here's to UL reaching the top! Cheers! Now on the Nebraska...Your'e a cute one aren't ya?
