I firmly believe that Nebraska's Defense is better than LSU's. I guess only time will tell me if I'm wrong but I think they are stiffer than LSU, especially up front. I don't know if they are going to have the speed that LSU presents in the LB and DB corp but this game will again show us how much we are progressing. I am encouraged how well our O-Line protected Masson this weekend and I feel like we can do a lot of the same against NU.
One thing I can tell you is that your backup QB will NOT be doing mop up duty in the first half. I'm not sure how good Zac Lee truly is but from all reports, he has taken Ganz's place pretty well this year and there has been little dropoff. I also know that Castille is pretty good but didn't you lose one of your other RB's?
From the Cajuns, we don't have the vertical threat that is required to stretch the defense but we spread the ball around to lots of guys so its hard to focus on one WR. Our Oline is better than you will likely think as it is the best in the SBC and is second in the country in total starts by the starting 5. They are big and are slightly better run blockers than pass blockers because our running game has been our niche for the last few years. We have some talent at RB but nobody but our starter is proven. Sails (starter) is very small but he's powerful. He's not overly fast and will not outrun any of your defenders but he runs straight ahead very well. We are at our best when we are balanced.
As you saw, our defense is much improved over years past and fairly fast although, not overly big in the LB and DB corp. Our coaches started blitzing much more now that we have some good corners and the defense gave LSU all they could handle. We had 3 interceptions in our hands and dropped them, 2 of them would have likely been touchdowns making the game quite interesting. You factor in the goalline series where we were unable to score and you see a completely different game so do not let the score fool you into thinking that this will be an easy victory. If anything, last night showed our guys that we can go into anywhere and compete with some of the best teams in the country.
If I had to make a prediction right now, before injury reports and such, I'd tentatively predict a close NU victory at 27-13.
