Thread: Wolf Pack's Johnson makes his own return

  1. Default Wolf Pack's Johnson makes his own return

Kendall Johnson came into his freshman season at Nevada knowing he was fortunate to have a veteran-laden secondary to help him adjust. Three months later, Johnson — a former Lafayette resident and graduate of St. Thomas More High School — found himself pl...

I met a nice young man in the Phoenix airport yesterday, Kendall Johnson. He is a SO defensive back for Nevada. He saw my Ragin' Cajun hat and we started talking about how he was from lafayette and played in the N.O. Bowl against the Cajuns last year.

I asked him why he went to Nevada and not UL and he said UL recruited him but never gave him an offer. It sure seems like a talented local defensive back is EXACTLY what thE UL football program is in need of.

Anyone remember what the deal was with him? I'm just being curious. He was a nice guy to talk to.

Yea. The kid was a pretty good DB from STM. Wanted to go to UL, but Hud never offered a scholarship. Hud's theory (which doesn't work) is that he does not offer scholarships to local kids. He invites them to walk on and use TOPS rather that award them with a scholarship. My opinion is that too many of the young talented kids are leaving to go to other schools.

He may have to rely on that even more depending on outcome of the final disposition meeting

I guess he would rather save his scholarships for "prpjects" or guys he has to "take a chance on" from MS area than offer a talented local kid who has his grades in lone and head on straight.

I would like to see what the percentage of players who received a scholarship from Hud only to be "dismissed" from the team due to off the field issues such as grades. Then, compare these results to other programs of UL's status.

I honestly do not know what the answer is but I am getting tired of a recruit signing with the Cajuns who everyone is super excited about only to have him no longer be on the team in 1-2 years (or be as elusive to the playing field as the Easter bunny!)

I do understand that mid majors have to take some risks but let's look back and compare the "rewards" UL has seen for these risks and compare the results to our peers to see how this staff's decision making has paneed out.

The problem what your statement is its not true when it comes to not offering local athletes scholarships. He may have not offered certain athletes that you or I may like, but he has offered a number of them. This year he has offered Korey Louis, Javonis Issac, Kevin Moore, Jake Arceneaux, Jacque Price, Cole Kelley and Tyler Shelvin this season thus far.

In the article Will Guillory said "Johnson wasn’t recruited by UL."

I'm thinking your quote "UL recruited him but never gave him an offer" is more accurate.

After being force fed the idea that each of Hud's recruiting classes have been "THE BEST IN RAGIN' CAJUN HISTORY" and then seeing each team be less and less ralented each season I no longer trust what anyone says about Ragin' Cajun recruiting.

A lot of posters on ragin' Pagin get excited and like to brag when they get recruiting news before others because they paid for it. But, if the information that they are paying for is just B.S. hype straight out of the athletic department is it really even recruiting news or marketing material?

Gabe is my favorite reciever on this team but if Hud did not realize over the last 4 seasons we desperately need help in the secondary he is lost.

U do realize Arceneaux was only offered because his dad has lots of $$ to donate to the program. The kid is not D-1 material. Cole kelly will go to Arkansas for 1 or 2 yrs, then finish up his career at Northwestern St or McNeese.
Hud needs to heavily recruit Ja'cirey Lindzer (RB @ AES) and Calais (RB @ Cecilia). Those boys are some studs!!!

Agreed. It's funny how they are all good when we sign em.
