UL vs LSU Game Time Thread

_ The major SEC bias was with one of the line judges. The same official gave them a few huge spots during the game. He was often 1/2 to a full yard different from the other linesman, but always seemed to take charge and overule.

The safety isn't even worth talking about - it wasn't even close - we simply got jobbed.

I have to say, though, that it was a cleanly officiated game otherwise. They let both teams play, and weren't throwing flags just for the hell of it.

As for the broadcast, it was okay. To be honest, I think we got a lot of exposure by playing LSU on TV, and people (recruits included) had to notice that we are only a few playmakers (and plays) away from being a really good football team. _

Agree, but the performance in this game will only be meaningful if we follow up with great performances in conference. We have played BCS teams close in the past only to follow up with mediocre play in conference and end with no better than .500 seasons. We are still in great position to have a really good year. Most expected us to be 1-2 (some expected worse) at this point and instead we are 2-1. The boys just need to keep playing hard and correct a few mistakes.

_ If Im not mistaken The SEC signed some huge contract with ESPN designating all their games....everything...be televised from all SEC schools. Notice they were propping LSU's volleyball match with Kentucky tonight on ESPNU??? One guy even said this was the third time he'd seen LSU play this year...

Despite these guys being under contract with the SEC it would be nice to see some integrity and honesty from them. In all their discussions comparing the programs (and not just us but in any mid-major-BCS matchup in general) I'd like to hear mention of the disparity in athletic budgets. It snot an excuse but it is a reality that does affect the ability of one team to recruit the more talented or top tier athletes.

A receiver with 4.3-4.4 speed who could stretch the defense would make all the difference for this team. _

I don't know how close we were to getting Demarius Johnson, now at Tulsa, but that is exactly who he need. Our WR are slow.

Question on the safety call: could that have been reviewed? Can't you challenge a spot? Seems like that could have be challenged. But maybe I'm getting NFL/college rules mixed up.

You are absolutely correct. This is going back a few years, but I was never so agitated as one year in the Stokely era when we won a game to go 6-3 (I believe) only to have coach declare the season successful after 9 games because we were assured a winning season. We then proceeded to look like crap in losing the last 2, which were winnable games, and turn a potentially successful 8-3 season into another 6-5 year.

Because we SHOULD have scored but the play that took place WAS a safety. What could have been is not as obvious as what was.

Well, most are not happy with the playcalls at the goalline and lack of scoring. However, even without the score, we get the safety which is hard to argue, get two points and get the ball back in good field position. You are right in that we should have scored. However, a lot of things can go wrong on the goalline and we really won't know what would have happened with different playcalling. We KNOW that we had a safety and got robbed.
