Thread: Nevada masters the art of profiting from bowl games

  1. Default Nevada masters the art of profiting from bowl games

Mountain West Conference schools might not be envious of Nevada's overall athletic budget — at about $21 million annually, it's one of the smallest in the conference.

Neat article. Does anyone know how much money we've made off each of the last 3 bowls?

Their secret sauce is the Mountain West giving Nevada $430,000 in travel money and no profit sharing required.

Funny how they compare the disparity with the old WAC, instead of the recent policies of the Sun Belt where the old WAC commish brought his old practice with him.

You can do stuff like that when you have a nice TV contract.

There should not be a communist system in bowl money. Why should UL fans support their competitors. I think up to a break even point the conference should help, but not directly from my pockets to USA.

I think it's 500k plus the 430k from the MWC is where the 930k comes from...Their total expense are 600k plus... At least that's how I read it.

You would think we could get an increased payout since we have bankrolled this bowl the past 3 years.

Unless something has changed [besides the conference stealing money from us] we get additional revenue from any tickets sold through the school beyond the original allotment. This has always been the case.
