Here is a social fact, Americans never let lack of money interfere with what they want to do.
No doubt, in general when you don't want to do something you become financially responsible, but when you are excited about something would find the money. IMO softball, and Christmas are only excuses to not go to a bowl people are for whatever reason not excited about. They would find other excuses if Christmas and softball were not factors.
Americans who care to get off of the credit system (minus a house) will do it. I have missed many events and will continue when money is tight until I get these crabs to stop pinching me on the ankle every month. I see the light my friends. Nothing will stop me.
In a general sense, you are absolutely true.
