I'd love to see all these other people go... but those of us going are also part of this "terrible fan base" everyone keeps talking about. I'm kind of tired of hearing the putdowns of our fans (including the casual ones) when everyone that I chat with on here is going to the game. You cannot control other people, no matter how much guilt talk you give them (or I should say "think" you're giving them). The only thing worth studying is what gets them to participate, and then working on improving those attractions. But getting irritated with these "other people" is kind of silly.

As a Cajun fan I'm way more concerned about why we can't get 25,000 people at Cajun Field than I am about why we can't get 40,000 in New Orleans.

Even if we don't break a record we'll still have a huge crowd there like we always do. In the meantime, file this thread away in the no big deal folder.

Build an entertainment district around Cajun Field similar to what Nola offers. You'd get a few more fans.

That still doesn't get them in the gate.

We've discussed what gets even more people than we're getting... into the gate. Obviously, winning is a big deal. And you cannot drop games to LaTech, at home... especially when you didn't really even look competitive. We need, when we have a team that can dominate the SBC, to actually attempt to be decent against a top 30ish program on our schedule. We need to get moving with the Master Plan (that involved borrowing and risk even when it was a dream. And you cannot get RCAF going (that which involves getting larger dollar donors) without a fundraising chairman. There's other components... but these are the main ones.

I have no idea why Rebel pretended that the Cajun Field attendance is disconnected from the bowl attendance. There's a direct connection. If you look at the successful teams around the nation, in home attendance, you'll find the programs that also laid up attendance at bowls. And for whatever bar the program established for "expectations", every single one of them has a fan interest that's proportional. "Fans" are the perfect barometer of how well your program is doing for the available fans you've got.

I just can't believe, quite honestly, how any intelligent person, keeps looking at the "audience" of an event, and says "what's wrong with these paying customers?". There's only one direction to look. And it's inside the system. I don't even care if they request other passionate fans to help in the "convincing the rest" campaign. It's a direct reflection of what the leadership of the university does to support that growth. You grow by attraction, and it feeds into itself. But, you don't go counting heads and blame the heads themselves. They are a near perfect barometer. And you do not blame the barometer and hope to ever change reality.

According to a UL Facebook post, we've sold "just over 10,000 tickets" at this point. Those are official sales through the school, we'll have more via Ticketmaster directly. But we're definitely selling less this year.

There was a big delay waiting on the NCAA -Georgia ruling, so the actual time tickets have been available is shortened.

I don't want to drive home feeling the same way I did against Tech. That game hurt attendance all year.

I'm very interested in our bowl game itself. This match up is the most exciting we've had since SDST. I truly believe that if we play similar to 10 out of our 12 regular season contests... from scheme to individual contribution... we'll lose. I do believe we'll arrive motivated to play. I'm not concerned about that. I do want more than anything... for our coaching staff to put on their football genius hats... and impress us with some coaching. It's fine to blather to the microphones, cameras, and the players about "execution" and "hanging onto the pill"... but it is the coaching staff that hosed up this year. They learned what defense to run in the second half against Troy. So I know they're not stupid enough to go soft cover/no pressure against Nevada. And I think they've learned that TB has to get out of the pocket to be effective. And I think Jay won't screw up and do something like giving Harris the ball on the very next two plays... right after Harris ran 65 yards at break neck speed. I'm pretty sure our staff realizes they were this year's Achilles heal. And they aren't going to squander a bowl with these fine young athletes, because they were too stubborn to do the right thing.

So... I see a great game ahead of us, folks!

Beating Louisiana Tech and not coming up a crapper against Appalachian ST would have helped more than anything else.....
