When the teams were in the old Gulf States Conference and later in the Southland, just the mention of "Tech-USL" conjured up images of intense, high-scoring, free-wheeling basketball.

When players like the Ragin’ Cajuns’ Bo Lamar and the Bulldogs’ Mike Green got together, fans jammed Lafayette’s Blackham Coliseum and Ruston’s Memorial Gym in what for years was the state’s best basketball rivalry.

When was the last time an Advocate writer wrote concerning an upcoming LSU rivalry basketball game, "Baton Rouge's Pete Maravich Assembly Center?"

IMO the article is a suburb piece. No doubt this is a revival of a rivalry but I doubt a long lived revival. Certainly worthy of this article. Brings in the great teams of lore. Come on Turb drink some coffee. This is not about Lafayette vs Ruston but UL vs LTU R and the game.

In a way Dan is asking the obvious question, why has LTU R run away and hid for a decade? You can ask such a question by what is not said.

I don't think LSU is the boogey man but the Advocate is on record claiming they have to protect their readers comprehension abilities in the rest of the state. It is public domain that their solution is city focus.

So I don't recall the article but did it talk about the old games being at city stadiums' Baton Rouge and New Orleans or did it reference the schools as respects the venues?

----I think that the point is not really the use of the cities which I can see---but what I wonder about is the forced use of Lafayette when our school (UL or University of Louisiana) is used (this is stated policy by the new UL writer) ---the reader cannot ascertain whether it is the author's intent or not because of this restriction imposed on staff writers----Don't buy their paper until the policy changes!!!! I don't think that this is asking too much of a new kid on the block wanting business!!!

The article also has no problem using USL without using Lafayette but had to have UL Lafayette. I guess every knew where the the University of Southwestern Louisiana was without a reminder.
