-------And I do too T-Bine---I think Jay and I had us going 7-5 or 8-4 before the year started and I think what Gerald Broussard said the other night what the truth is----I think it becomes very hard for some to understand how hard it is to win a game---the game of football with its rules, talent, coaching, MATCH UPS, AND OUTSIDE PERIPHERAL MAKE UP just create a very unpredictable setting---maybe why people bet on the games!!! lol
OK, crazy and njustice. You guys were more civil than express, but both of your comments have been posted over and over on numerous threads. Why can't one thread on this board actually be about accomplishments of our teams. Hell, I think there was even some critiquing of the baseball team when they finished the regular season ranked #1 in the country. Everyone who reads this board knows we sucked against 4 teams this year. We also beat 8.
Want to stand apart from others in G5? We have the opportunity to do so on Dec 20. Only 2 other teams in the G5 conferences have ever won 36 games in a 4 year stretch. Think about that for a second.
Edit: BTW, the closest we've ever come to 36 wins in 4 years was from 86-89 and 93-96. Those were 25 win stretches....
you are FOS, show me 1 other post where i have said that..besides where i have said it over and over. im th eone calling people out all the excuses of not supporting the team. Dont lump me in with "everyone" i think we would have possibly seen th etype o fyear everyone was esxpecting if hud would coach with the "nothing to lose" mentality he had when he got here. So far he has coached that way in every bowl game, if he does that again, i think we win. If we have a bland and vanilla approach I think we will lose.
I basically agree. HOWEVER, if you accept this logic then you have to acknowledge that the SBC is not the same league that it was 4 years ago. Does "treading water" in a league in decline mean that your program has not digressed? Replace NMSU with WKU and GSU with MTSU and I doubt that we get to 8 wins.
So are we happier being 5-7 and beating Boise?
I'll take 8-4 every year myself.
It's called being a ____ing realist. A lot of you think you are being realists in thinking that we should have gone from the worst program in football to a 10-2 access bowl participant. I really don't know what you base than on. Fact is we overachieved in the first couple of years. There was no progression to the top. We went worst to first. Now we've stalled for a year or two and people are in meltdown mode. 4 years people. Not 4 decades. Tell me a mid-major outside of Boise and TCU(no longer midmajor) that is showing the consistency we have. We haven't won the big game yet. So what? We've had a committed Athletic Department for less than a decade.
My point of getting into this thread is because not a single god damn thread can go on here without someone ____ting on the accomplishments of this athletic program. We are about to be in rare company with 4 straight 9 win seasons. Enjoy the ____ing ride.
The antonym of "progress" is "regress"... not "digress". But, you are spot on. I would rather Kevin used the term "maintain" as opposed to "progress". Our uniqueness in "maintaining" an 8-4 record over a 4 year stretch is extremely unique. It is not "progress" however. We are in a holding pattern (indeed a tough pattern to hold)... and there are some that think an 8-4 holding pattern, even though it is in the SBC, is something pretty incredible. There are others that are not that impressed, considering the circumstances.
I believe Kevin wrote this as his "wrap on the regular season" and the vibe he feels ought to exist heading into our bowl game. Not to trigger another debate on the true value of this particular 8-4 season. But, as we move into a bowl - the reward for our players and coaches - and hopefully a reward for our fans - we should start to focus more on the achievement of another bowl - and the formidable opponent we're about to face. Nevada is no slouch. Each passing day, as a football fan, I get more excited about how the Cajuns are going to deal with the Wolfpack.
Knowing the DNA of a Hud built program... and what I've seen us do in bowl games... I think bowl contests are our best performances. Our coaches seem to do a better job with the coaching preparation time alloted, and our players seem to shine on that stage. I'm stoked about this particular contest. I wish that became the prevalent exchange amongst us between now and December 20th.
I know some are disappointed with "another" 8-4 season. Although I have some disappointment, I'm still excited about UL Football! When you look at where we are today as opposed to just 5 years ago how can one not be excited about the future. The total number of wins may not increase this year, but look at the talent level just 5 years ago compared to today. 5 years ago, most of us would have traded our souls to the devil to be where we are today. I believe that we are on our way to building a great football program here! But remember Rome wasn't built in a day.
