It worked when most teams were geared up to stop it, so to label it a gimmick that only works because people rarely play it is a bit demeaning.

I think the Cajuns would have eaten up Ga Southern, our defense was very good at destroying the running game.
If only 3 out of 100's do it... To me it's a gimmick. It's not an insult or anything, it's just not something schools prepare for week in and week out. Not long ago the spread was considered a gimmick, now everyone runs a version of it so schools prepare for it a lot week in and week out. I also believe we were the team best built to beat southern with limited passing threat to our defense and our ability to control the clock with the run game, we matchup very well.

Yes. I believe our athleticism on defense would have won many of those individual battles that dictate the game of the option run and we had the athletes to cover sideline to sideline while pounding the middle of their line all while at the same time taking away the aspect of actually having to cover deep routes and open field with our secondary.

Oklahoma, Bama, Texas, Nebraska, are some teams that won national championships when everyone was geared to stop the triple option. It was the dominate offense of two decades, and unstoppable for all but a few elite defenses. Even Mississippi State had a golden era with it. Many teams would be well served to use it instead of mediocre throwing quarterbacks. Just saying there is no gimmick to it, it is pure football and the defense needs to honor their assignments, and we all know most times they do not.

And if everyone went back to doing it, how well you think georgia southern could recruit to it if bama, lsu, Oregon etc ran it? And if we sun that offense 9 out if 12 weeks, how good or "special" you think Georgia southern would be?

Mixing apples and oranges, Ga Southern will never compete with Bama at any level. Ga Southern did not even do well vs Navy. Does not make the offense a gimmick. You know what is coming, just do your job and you can contain it, but somehow people refuse to do THEIR jobs, and thus the results. Gimmicks are IMO tricky plays, nothing tricky about the triple option.

Well excuse the F outta me, I used the wrong word... 3 people running it in football is what I call a gimmick. My point is, if everyone ran it they would have the 80th best option coach... Not 1 of 3...it's not a coincidence that they went toe to toe with georgia tech. They see that style of offense in practice all the time. They are a novelty not the current norm... That will go away the more people in this conference play/game plan for them.

Exactly! The top of the FCS and the bottom of the FBS is one in the same. Marginal differences if at all.

I'd even argue, the top of fcs may have some advantages selling the idea of competing for national championships... GS can no longer sell that

Ok, Crazy please do not go crazy on me. You can call it anything you want. To me a gimmick is a double reverse, or even the wildcat before people were aware of it. You know gimmicks, fool um plays. I guess by your definition the power I could become a gimmick offense at some point. I simply do not agree with you.

As for three possible runners in the same backfield, that has been football since it's beginning, so yes not a gimmick.

And I simply do not agree with you, you know what I'm trying to say and I'm not gonna look in a thesaurus to do it....novelty, rarity, don't see it much, whatever word in your mind describes that. Our players were not alive in the 70's and 80's and you don't play defense for us... So I don't see how that's relevant, to our players it's a gimmick.

Gimmick Definition (1) an ingenious or novel device, scheme, or stratagem, especially one designed to attract attention or increase appeal.

I could make a case for both of you being correct.
