Another gem in the aftermath of that embarrassment: our local media is a clown show. I love that we now have a post game show, and I listen after every game.. The only person in the booth that sounded ticked was G. Others up there yucking it up. Then, the rage comes on and we here conversations from Bowl games to conference realignment! Idiots, we just got _____ slapped by an FCS school, at home, on SR night, when trying to position ourselves for a "better bowl"... AGAIN!! 3 years in a fcuking row!
I have to disagree this was not on Broadway we never ran the read option it was like brooks Haack turning around to had the ball off. Not once did we attempt to jam the receivers at the line. Who plays three down linemen on fourth and one. No adjustments made by the coaching staff. It was almost like we're in the NOB no need to get anyone injured. How do you have you best player Eli in the game to block. Not one wheel route was call to him. This one is on the coaches we got out coached which is what happens in most of our losses to teams we should beat. We were embarrassed tonight.
During the game I was struck at how poorly he fakes the hand off. He stretches the ball in the direction of the runner but it doesn't fake anyone.
Of course I am still spoiled by Babb, Desormeaux and Gautier burying the ball into the runners gut and then pulling it out.
Sadly and ashamedly I picked us to lose 38-35. I knew what I saw this year that teams had caught on to us and AStU had played well even in games they lost. Their coaches know if they stopped our run, we have nothing. We can't pass, and we can't pass defend. I was at the game. On our first 3 and out, I knew Appy coaches knew what our game plan was. Everyone in the stadium knew the first play was going to be a repeat of the ULM first play...a Broadway keeper....they assigned a gunner to stop it. They stopped our rushing attack most of the game because they knew that, while we may get lucky and complete a pass, it was worth ignoring our passing attack. It worked. It was a team loss, but I put this one squarely on the coaching staff. They were really schooled today by better coaches. Appy played smarter, harder, and with more desire. Thats good coaching. I love what coach Hud has done for the team, school, and this city. Our fan base has grown, the pride has grown, but in order to keep this going, and not revert back to USL days, coach Hud better find out what the problem is and get it fixed. Acadiana area has tasted success that he is responsible for, and mediocracy is no longer accepted. I'm disappointed for the loss, but I'm more frustrated on our lack of adjustments and improvement throughout the year, And we still tackle, or attempt to tackle, at the shoulders, trying to bump guys down, bad angles, you name it, we simply do not play with good fundamentals of football, again, lack of good coaching. Common Cajun's lets turn this around and end the regular season by blowing out an inferior opponent!!!
We're consistent alright. We still haven't managed to win an outright football championship in this crappy conference. Losing to App St in the fashion that we did exposed this coaching staff's limitations. It should have also opened a lot of eyes around here. Unless Hud makes some major coaching changes, we've peaked as a football program. We will get bowl eligible every year by beating an FCS team and 5-6 SBC opponents while we continue to get embarrassed by our OOC P5 and G5 opponents. This is not the way out of the Sun Belt.
