UL — Consider for a moment the legacy of a man who made the most of his second chance — there is plenty of tangible evidence to support its lasting impact. And that, after all, has always been the goal.

They call it the "Acadiana" Advocate but always try to pigeon hole UL as a Lafayette only entity.
I'm not "in Lafayette" but Broadway has left quite a legacy with me too.
Luke this is not a slight towards you by any means, you have done a better job than anyone has every expected. Especially coming out of a paper that has a very negative slant towards our university.
I am serious when I say this, if the Acadiana Advocate would cover Acadiana and specifically UL in a fashion that would cater to Ragin Cajuns fans desires to be known as UL or Louisiana, the Advertiser would close its doors. The coverage that y'all provide blows the doors off of The Daily Advertiser, but they understand what "being local" means.
LSU fans will not unsubscribe to the Acadiana Advocate because of the use of Louisiana or UL regarding sports, because y'all provide the best sports coverage in the state. But, Cajuns are a different breed of people, we are the most welcoming culture in the world when you accept what we are, unique. When you deliberately disrespect our desires, culture, schools or the place that we call home you will get nowhere fast.
I appreciate the compliments, I just suppose I don't see my paper's negative slant toward the university, unless that perceived negative slant is derived from the name we use in the paper and the preferred athletic branding of the university.
My bosses have been informed, y'all know that. I'm doing the best I can.
But I'd also like to point out that this has jumped from the use of the word Lafayette to describe the physical place where he resides to the paper disrespecting the culture. Far from it, y'all. I just want to tell the stories of the sports figures in the area and eat y'all's boudin.
All of the boudin.
Anyway, that's all I've got to say about it. Y'all have been great to me, really. I couldn't ask for a better and more responsive readership. Hopefully as time goes on the relationship can be built to where all parties are happy all the time. Cheers.
I think everyone appreciates the effort that you put into writing your feature stories. The issue is with the deliberate use of something other than our preferred athletic branding.
If you were to write an article about a DARPA project that the University of Louisiana @ Lafayette Engineering Dept participated in you wouldn't see or hear many complaints.
I'll give you a better example, nearly every LSU fan hates Brent Musberger because he calls them Louisiana State. It may be Vern Lundquest I'm not sure, but it drives them bananas. Does he do it to disrespect the fan base? Probably not, but it sure ____es them off because they want to be referred to as LSU.
Hi Luke, I was only referring to the narrow scope of influence inferred, when his fans come from all over, especially Acadiana.
Now that you brought it up "Lafayette served as a second home" and "At Houston" and in the same sentence leaves only one impression. School from school, not city from city. City from school doesn't flow.
Top that off with there is not one mention of "the university" in the article, I was left with the impression that you thought he only left an impression inside the city limits.
I love your stories I just ask for a broadening of the perceived influence.
Thanks
ps and as always, jmo
Thanks Luke for everything you have done to cover Cajuns athletics.
Leaves his skid mark
