Do you have what it takes to be a part of the Wildcatter football team or dance team? The Lafayette Wildcatters will be holding football and dance team tryouts on November 7 at St. Thomas More High School.
Registration for both will begin at 1 p.m. at the football field and tryouts will begin promptly at 2 p.m.
The cost is $50 for football tryouts and $20 for dance team tryouts- cash or money order only.
T-shirts will be given to each player or dancer trying out.
Football players will need to bring proper shoes. The tryouts will be held outdoors on grass. All football positions are open and no experience is required.
Dancers need to wear proper attire for dancing. The Wildcatters are looking for girls who would like to join a top-notch dance squad. In addition to providing entertainment at the Wildcatters' home game and cheering on the team, the dancers will make several Wildcatter promotional appearances throughout the season.
The source of the story
The Lafayette Wildcatters recently signed a corporate sponsorship with the University of Louisiana Athletic Department. The Catters will be sponsoring football, basketball and baseball.
During the 2009 football season, Ragin' Cajun fans will be able to see instant replays, thanks to the Catters and another sponsor. The Cajundome scoreboard for the basketball team will also be sponsored by the Catters.
"We want the Wildcatters to sponsor UL and vice versa because we are not in direct competition," said Athletic Marketing and Promotions Director Eric Maron. "It will help both the Catters and the Ragin' Cajuns to become more visible to the community."
Maron believes that the Catters having the UL colors will be a good thing. "When people think of Lafayette athletics, they think about red, white and black."
Some of UL's football players made it to the NFL after graduation; but many have not.
"Having the Catters in Lafayette gives players a chance to play football even if they do not make it to the NFL," added Maron. "You never know who will be watching you play."
During the final two UL home games of the season, ULM on November 21 and Troy on November 28, fans will be able to interact with 2010 season Catter players and cheerleaders.
Who in the hell are the Wildcatters?
The Mudbugs. New ownership.

Nope. New ownership group or just new owner. I think I read that he is a former Cajun.

The Lafayette Wildcatters is pleased to announce James P. Bitterman as its Game Day Public Relations Manager.
Many may recognize Bitterman as the voice of Saturday morning sports in Lafayette, which he has done since November 2000. Bitterman is also the play-by-play voice of the Acadiana Wrecking Ram football and St. Thomas More basketball. Bitterman has broadcasted three state championship football games and is remembered for his "call" of Acadiana's game winning field goal in the 2006 State Championship football game.
Bitterman said he looks forward to working with the Lafayette Wildcatters and making sure that all the fans of the Wildcatters enjoy their game day experience and come back time and time again.
"I really look forward to interacting with the fans on game day and making sure their experience at Wildcatters football games is enjoyable and memorable," said Bitterman. "Customer service is important in any business, and I feel like one of the reasons my radio programs have been successful is the customer service I provide for my sponsors.
