The Lafayette Wildcatters wrap up a two game Georgia road trip this Saturday when they take on the Columbus Lions at 6:30 cst at the Columbus Civic Center.

The Wildcatters will have their work cut out for them as Columbus leads the SIFL in both scoring offense, 74 points per game, and scoring defense, 32.7 points per game. The Lions are also number one in the SIFL in turnover margin at plus eleven after three games.

The high scoring Lion offense will be directed by former United States Naval Academy quarterback Chris McCoy. McCoy took over the starting job when quarterback Todd Spitzer got injured in an opening week victory over the Louisiana Swashbucklers. McCoy has proven very accurate since taking over the reins, completing 24 of 32 passes for 320 yards and seven touchdowns. Leading the Lions receiving core is Tirone Morris who has 18 catches for 269 yards and 2 touchdowns. Gerald Gales only has 14 catches on the year but 7 have gone for touchdowns.

Defensively the Lions are lead by linebacker Ryan Babb, from Troy University, who has touchdown returns of fifty yards and ten yards.

The Wildcatters are lead by quarterback Bo Bartik who last week had a big second half, 18 of 31, 4 touchdowns, in the Wildcatters loss to the Albany Panthers. For the game Bartik was 25 of 48 for 246 yards and 6 touchdowns. Coach Skip Foster said, “The Wildcatters will have to be prepared for the Lions blitz schemes. Linebacker Justen Rivers stacks right behind the nose guard and tries to shoot either A gap.” Coach Foster went on to say “We are going to have to do a good job of mixing up our protections to protect Bo.” Leading receivers on the season for the Wildcatters are Clyde Edwards who has 13 catches for 171 yards and 3 touchdowns, and Clarence Cotton who has 10 catches for 108 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Wildcatters have the number one kickoff returner in the SIFL in Andre Kelly who has 224 yards in kickoff returns and one touchdown.

The Wildcatters make their home debut on Saturday, May 1, 2010, versus the defending SIFL Champions the Louisiana Swashbucklers. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. with The Bag of Donuts band playing one hour before the game and one hour after the game.
