Thread: Building Block for UL Defense

  1. Default Building Block for UL Defense

Much to the frustration of UL head football coach Rickey Bustle, his defense stumbled early to open the season Saturday night against Southern University.

Bustle was relieved that the Ragin' Cajuns rebounded from a 12-7 deficit to eventually run away with a 42-19 win in front of school-record crowd of 41,357 at Cajun Field.

"The Cajun defense held Southern's aerial attack in check the final three quarters, during which Stewart had three catches for 41 yards and Lee had 108 yards passing and two interceptions. The Jaguars managed only seven points and 205 yards over that same stretch.

While Southern struggled, the Cajuns roared back with 35 straight points to blow it open."

From his description of the game the Advocate writer Keys didn't see this part of the game.

You saw that huh? I laughed at their coverage because all of their headings made it look like SU lost because they had some "missed opportunities". That's the BR media for you. I was impressed with the amount of coverage they gave the game and all of the statistics though. It was a good read even if it had the complete SU slant to it.

I would say it's typical catering (a/k/a pandering) to the audience.

Personally, I got a good laugh when I saw the Advertiser headline of "UL Pounds Southern" and then the Advocate's "Missed Opportunities" headline but I always keep in mind that if I tell an Advocate reporter like Bobbie Adroin, etc. that "I love UL", it'll show up in print as "I love (ULL)".

Both WBRZ and WAFB had coverage of the game and both said there were "no updates" when we had already scored 5-10 minutes earlier. If you have a live body at the game with the communications we have in this day and time, you would instantly know what the score was. Same old "let's not give little ole UL any pub." It's almost funny how hard Baton Rouge tries not to say anything good about Lafayette or UL. We need to hurry up and get I-49 to N.O. then half the world can bypass BR.
