Thread: Final: Louisiana (34) vs ULM (27)

One thing I will say is on that last ULM touchdown, the secondary was in some non-sensical formation. It looked like it was cover 1 with the safety way off to the left side of the field, not in the middle. The right formation needs to be called for the guys to make plays.

They had to throw because they have no running game. If a team is one dimensional, and you know they have to throw, the advantage goes to the defense. Our DL did their part. It is very obvious, and has been for a ling time, that we have serious issues in our secondary. It's a personnel and coaching issue. How do all teams (in the SBC mind you) have such open receivers, on every play, that are also always either streaking in open space, past us over the top, and/or out juking and breaking tackles like superstars?

The key is that when/if we address that issue, we'll not have a close game in the SBC. It gives me a lot of optimism. I know without a doubt that we can recruit great secondary athletes in this area. And, there are high school coaches in our area that know how to coach them. So, when Hudspeth gets tired of seeing us get carved up downfield, I think he need only mention it to somebody and it will get resolved.

So that's why the extra set of eyes came in an two freshman were moved in to start? Jones started at corner the first two games and was replaced....and he is still getting burned.

With the exception of the D line the whole D has been shuffled around.....but they aren't smart enough to see that a 450+ day passing is where they want to be?

The only thing that saved us last night was overthrown passes. If not for that, the TOs may have not even been a factor. I'll take the W, but our defense secondary stinks and it's quite exhausting week after week watching this team on that side the ball. Our D line looked absolutely great, and even then with the push on pass rush and the run stopping, our DBs still looked pathetic. Last night showed just how we grade on that level of defense. From the LBs to the DBs, poor tackling and horrible angles of pursuit led to some not so great defense.
If our Sunbelt opponents had some above avg QBs we would be toast. And even then we still manage to help their QBs look like NFL prospects.

Again I'll take the W. But dissappointed in this "hope we get the ball last " defense.

As collegiate athlete, winning a team title in 2004 was the highlight of college career. He had to be bitter bout lost and answered with an lil attitude. Everyone plays to win something.

They rented I-20 billboards and created an organized effort to bombard the Indy Bowl BEGGING them to take them last year.

Bottom line is when we play a quality team....let's say in the Bowl game, and they see how weak our secondary is, it will not be pretty. We have one of the greatest teams in my memory since early 80s, not saying we don't. But we better get a handle on the secondary, because we may not always have the explosive offense we have this year and will need to be balanced in order to continue the winning. W's are important, but how you win and against who is also important on building on success.
